First up; I have had my i30cw CRDi for about 3 weeks and I love it, but I have one problem. When I try and use my phone's GPS function I can longer hear the instructions, as I am assuming that it is being routed through the Bluetooth stereo, but the stereo keeps playing the radio or whatever else is playing.

My phone is a Nokia 6710 Navigator.

Thanks

Welcome to the club...Getting a new phone would be cheaper than getting a new car... :winker:

But seriously... Bluetooth can be so flaky.. I havent heard anyone else with that combo on here (using a mobile with integrated GPS via bluetooth) so not sure of any easy solution.. Hopefully someone can help  :goodjob:

Might be worth investing in a dedicated GPS...they can be picked up for not much more than a hundred bucks off ebay these days... :-\

Welcome, by the way.... :goodjob:

Another thing, there are road laws concerning the use of mobile phones in cars whether you're using it as a phone or as a navigational aid. These do require the phone to be secured in a mounting affixed to the vehicle while it is being used.

If you're a P1 Licence holder, you're not permitted to use a mobile at all...even if you are using it just for navigation.  :)

I have a couple of mobile phones with gps nav on them. But they will not transmit the gps nav speech to the car bluetooth system, only the telephone speech etc.

I have a TomTom Go530 that does send its instructions to the car radio, but only via it transmittimg it to a set station on the radio, not bluetooth, although it has bluetooth built in, that only works for the mobile phone. Then the TT cuts its own instructions for the phone call

Thanks for all your replies.

I am not a P plater and when I was, mobile phones didn't exist ;).

I already have a phone holder, I did manage to use the GPS through the Bluetooth Audio, but it seems a bit flaky and I couldn't get it to do it again. I think I will save up my money and buy a dedicated GPSr

Thanks again.

Hi Tony, i agree with Rusty, just thought i'd point out, that little storage space with pop up lid in dash, it makes an ideal spot to keep a dedicated GPS, you just need to fabricate your own mount. a few members have already done this.
cheers

The pop up storage idea is great!, would love to see how people set it up.

At the moment I am looking at a Garmin Nuvi 1260 or 1390T, as both these model can connect to the ecoRoute HD, which I would like as the SX model doesn't come with a trip computer.

My Friend and I both have the Garmin 1390T and he tried the ecoRoute HD but returned it as it interfered with some electronics in his Skoda Octavia.. So might be worth googling and checking out some forums before going with the ecoRoute setup... the 1390T is and excellent GPS though  :goodjob:

If you search "GPS mount" on here you will find a few threads with ideas but unfortunately against our recommendations any pictures posted were done as attachments which have since been corrupted rather than going with Image links via Photobucket or similar  :-\

I will try a google image search for i30 GPS and see what comes up ..

Edit: "i30 GPS on top of dash" brings up some results
