On my i30 the tow bar sits very low and I was wondering if I could reverse it to give it some more height.

Hi Tony,

See here: https://i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=6053.msg69249#msg69249

You must have as different style (turning either of these upside down would  make them lower??)

As I say in that thread another member suggested switching the plug assemby to the top of its bracket to avoid ripping it off on a low driveway.. :winker:

Are you sure it's not already upside down. If I reversed mine it would be lower.

My towbar is like the link dazzler gave but it sits the other way around. The writing is the right way up the way it is though.

Can this type be reversed safely?

This is the way I got the car, it is an original Hyundai tow ball installed for delivery.

Which one Tony? The square black one or mine with the orange washer on it? Either way they should be up the way they are shown in that thread...

Mine is different to those two but also sits high, i have done quite a bit of towing with my i30. i can't see a problem turning it up the other way if it sits flat and mounts secure. but i would take it back to dealer as they might have supplied wrong one.

This is mine, a non genuine one, it obstructs the number plate slightly but not had a tug yet lol

when i spoke of reversing it, i meant i used to un bolt the ball and re mount it upside down, as to not obstruct
the number plate,  but i don't bother any more,  had lots of police follow me but not been been stopped,

You can buy a detachable tow bar:
http://www.hyundai-car.co.uk/accessories/all/?modelName=i30&ref=183
That's the unit I have fitted on my CW, the cross bar hangs very low, even the socket is only about 200mm from ground level, you can easily reverse into a kerb, and could also damage the mounting points on the vehicle.
Having the tow bar ball detachable is a boon though.
