Hi guys,
I haven't been on here much of late. I have been busy in training in my new job as a bus driver. They might be diesel, but thats about all the have in common with the i30.
Just thought I would share with you an issue that has come to light on mine recently, and to see if others have any similar problems. Our i30 about a week ago developed a knock in the steering. It didn't seem to effect control of the vehicle, but made an addable clunk when turning the steering wheel even slightly.
Anyway, took it back to the dealership, my old employer and they have ordered a new steering rack which is due to be fitted tomorrow.
My i30 has 22500klms on it, so its a bit surprising to see this sort of thing give up so soon, but as long as its fixed no hassles, I will be happy.

I had my sttering rack replace about 3 weeks ago now for the same reason. Mostly at low speed ( I first noticed it when turning out of my driveway). A slight Knock that seemd to have been ther since new. My car had about 20000 k's on the clock. Had the rack replaced and now aok...

My car seems to have similar problems. Only when turning the steering wheel to the right.

when you do a full turn do you turn till wheel hits the stop? as this puts more stress on a front wheel drive

I usually do not turn the wheel all the way to the stop.

I generally don't turn the steering wheel to the stop, and noticed the knock when turning the wheel only a little bit whilst moving slowly

I used to notice a clunk when moving the steering at slow speeds.
For example driving out of a car park in a reasonably tight spot.
