The past couple of days are the first ones for me since getting the i30. I find that in the sunlight it's difficult to see the stereo's display. The one below it for the climate control isn't a problem.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

And is the contrast or brightness or whatever is adjustable.

Seems a coincidence that I've just noticed this after its first "service".

  • Sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
Never had this problem at all.

The LCD screen is designed to be read in bright sunlight it is a high contrast device. LED & Fluorescent displays don't handle sun very well.

Are you saying that you can't see the character very well, or just the blue back light.

Do you wear any glasses with polarization filter? If I wear my sunglasses, I hardly see anything on the radio if I look straight at it - I have to tilt my head to read some parts of the display. Other LCDs have their polarization filters oriented differently and I have no problem with them.

Hi Martin,

Really hot weather has had an adverse effect on the LCD screen of some i30's (But usually only temporarily) have you had any days in the high 30's lately where the sun could have shone directly on the stereo for an extended period??

It was 30 degs yesterday. Car parked in the sun and was really hot inside. That's when I noticed it.

Today it's about 23, but the display appears to be OK now.

I've never seen this happen before on any of my vehicles. And if it's a design flaw, it's a pretty bad one, considering Australia can have really hot and sunny weather.

Thanks for the info about this.  I went and got myself a "sun shade" today ($5 at SCA), hopefully this will keep not only the temp down in the car a few degrees, but stop the sun shining directly on the display and the "fading" of the LCD display occurring.

We got dash mats when we bought our cars. there is a lot of plastic exposed to the sun. You avoid long term cracking and there seems to be hardly any of the film that collects on the windscreen from overheating the plastic too.  :)

Yep, got a dash mat too (one of my first after sales purchase from ebay).  I really got the sunshade as I got into the car on Friday, and could hardly hold the steering wheel!!  Hopefully it will help with the LCD display too (keeping direct sun from it).

Excellent! I noticed that the windshield angle is quite steep and I remember saying, this is going to be hot in summer, so we bought the mats the same day.  :goodjob2:
