Well the 'shiny red one' is booked for her second service, wow, time sure does fly by.

I am the guy who paid up front for the first three services so I will try to remember to see what I would have paid if I had to come up with the cash and, by this time next year see if I saved any dosh.   I am ever hopeful in so far as the VAT has risen as well as the price of all consdumables.  The other issue which I believe bothered Steve was that the dealership my go bust with his money...    Actually the dealership don't have the money it's a credit company, me thinks, but, in any event I can't see the Hy dealerships going belly up the way Hy's are selling all over the place.

Oh and I shall also clock the mileage before handing in my car

Hey ASA ..

Leave a copy of your mileage log in plain sight in the car as well so they know you have logged the mileage ... and make a little computer sign preferably laminated ... No eating or drinking in this car please (If you do it that way it will look like a permanent one  :winker:) Then they hopefully won't take it on a morning tea run  :whistler:

One of the advantages of being retired is that you can "sit and wait" for your car.
Read a book and drink their coffee.
'Coz the first few services are pretty short affairs anyway.

2nd is a biggy so will cost £££££.

Do you get loan car for nowt, just pay for fuel used, as part of the service.

I do and car is covered as part of the terms of my own insurance.

Nah, last year they blagged a tenner off me, but yeah the loaner is part of the deal so maybe I should question the tenner thing...   It's not going in to well after Christmas but they phone and book it real early...

The tenner would be the insurance excess waiver; usually means you wouldn't pay the first £150 of any claim.

I once paid that waiver fee. Only once, mind...

Not on a petrol, slightly more expensive but I was still less than £150 for service 2, mind you that was the one where they scratched her and I spent the next fortnight in an i20 while they put her through the bodyshop

Had my 2nd service a few days ago, £237.

They'd reset the mpg setting and it was showing 5.6mpg and done two miles approx since I left it there. They had a free courtesy car but I just chose to be driven home and picked up again.

I dunno if it is my imagination but it does seem to running better than it was - the acceleration seems zippier somehow.

They picked me up in a Veloster sport thing which seemed quite good but looked ugly. Maybe when they bring out the turbo i30 I might get one of those? Though mine is okay really - and I ain't 19 any more.  :)

S'posed to change the plugs n filters on this service, this may account for a zippier getaway :-)  £237 uh?  This makes me feel a tad better that I pre-paid, but, I am now thinking that I will JUST break even.  After allowing for the VAT increase and general cost of living increases.   Ergo, had there not be a world wide finacial calamity I would probably have overpaid  :-(   :-(  :-(

This leads me to the conclusion that pre-paid servicing is generally a rip off.

I've never thought of doing this, but I quite like the idea - pay at the time of purchase.

Don't do it if there's any type of finance involved, or you'll end up paying interest, sales tax etc on servicing costs too.  :fum:

At what time did you pre pay the servicing ASA

The day I bought the car, I paid the lot.  My reasoning was that everything was done and dusted.  Bear in mind that the worlod wide recession was just coming to the boil and I had listened carefully to a lot of the commentry one of which was 'whoever wins the election is gonna ramp up to VAT'  and that the cost of living would shoot up across the board, so, even tho it was a shed load of money (for me) I thought safest thing to protect agains't infaltion.  Cleary the pricing was done when things fiscal were more stable.   So, some months later the VAT shot up, and the cost of living shot and continues to do so.

Which is why I feel that I will break even, that is, as if I had paid individually for each service.

I've got a service coming up (would be a classic to put a sign with that on it)
