I was looking around to figure out if the dealer is trying to do a swiftie on me with the wife's Accent, (just like my i30, that had service stickers for "intermediate" services between those in the log book). The sticker says service due in 6 months or 7500 km. The car's manual says the same, but online information from a number of sources mentions 12 months or 15000 km. I found a UK site talking about 7500 miles (12000 km), so I would appreciate any information on this.

I do oil and filter change on my diesel in between service intervals, because I want to keep it for a decade or so, I figure the higher stress/compression of a diesel engine longevity certainly won't be disadvantaged by more frequent oil changes. I would do the same for the Accent, but I want to see first what the truth is behind the contradicting info I found.

hati the way it was explained to me, as I had exactly the same question, I was told by  four dealers, two in WA,1 in Qld and 1 in Victoria,to keep your warranty, you must service every 15000 K's after the initial, but it is advisable to do as you say just do the oil and filter every 7500K's and a general inspection.

My bigger concern after talking to many other authorised machanics, is "are Hyundai dealers actually doing what they say they are on your report" I asked my mechanic here in our home town, why do you have to change your coolant so often,as I was led to believe the green style coolant was guaranteed for 2 years and the red style coolant 5 years, but yes it has to be tested each service, then theres the changing of brake fluid, supposedly Bruce by Hyundai's servicing records(as I have only had either of the cars serviced by Hyundai)has had both the brake fluid and coolant changed twice and they have both only done 45,000 K's, after the experiences I have had with Hyundai technicians, I am skeptical, especially when servicing at other mechanical shops are almost half the price, two shops which I have gotten quotes from even buy their sythentic oils and filters from Hyundai.

Thanks for that surik. Love it when the info is muddled like this. Does look like a money grabbing scheme so far. I guess better ask my dealer too and see which version I get from them.

I also noticed the much higher service price compared to places like RAC. My only concern going to the "others" is anything ECU related that you need special software for, available to Hyundai dealers only. I am aware that as long as genuine parts are used, any registered car mechanic can do the servicing without compromising factory warranty.

I gotta ask the dealer for a price excluding oil...

Anyone in Perth using other than a Hyundai dealer for regular services?

Some say they might upgrade the ECU, but no one has ever come on here and said how sensationally better their car was after a service.

I service every 15k as required to keep warranty, I use non genuine filters from SFS which are said to meet Hyundai's requirements, I use Mobil 1 0w40 oil, and I pocket the (substantial) change for more important things like beer.

7,500k servicing is a rip off in my mind, it is done to inflate the dealers profits rather than protect the car (unless you are in the extreme examples identified in the manual). If the engineers in Korea say 15k (and I believe it is even longer in other parts of the world) then I suspect they are being conservative, given they have to keep the engine intact for the 5 year unlimited warranty.

Korean Motors and repairs on Welshpool Road Welshpool, when you turn either right or left onto Welshpool road from leach Hwy(depending on which wya your coming from)their down on the left hand side about 400 metres towards the railway tracks, I know he has the ECU programs and can do the global diagnostics.

I can't argue with your logic, all the major car manufacturers do a lot of research on their products, but I am still a firm believer of shorter oil changes are beneficial to your motor maintainance and preformance,I;ve been driving and owning some sort of vehicle for justa tad over forty years,I have always serviced the vehicles I've owned every 5000 K's(especially the deisels) so an oil change and vehicle inspection every 7500 K's is a bonus for me,I get an extra 2500K's before having to do my interam services, now this is only a personal thing,I've been doing it for so many years now I aint going to change,I was always taught, Look after your car and your car will look after you, it's never failed me yet,but again I stress this is only my personal preference,to do Oil chages every 7500K's it doesn't have to be done by a dealer

Thanks Rick, very helpful. Will give them a shot when my 30k service comes up. I need to get both our cars in to the dealer for a bluetooth update, so will just suck up the Accent service, but Korean Motors will be the next port of call.

Midland Auto Plus in Midvale also have the software technology available to Hyundai dealers - they just have to get the codes off them when required which is no issue.
Very reliable and totally trustworthy too.
