---------------------------------------------

A cold snap has covered parts of Australia's east coast with a blanket of snow, in the middle of spring.

Motorists were left stranded in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, while power lines were downed, trees uprooted and ferries cancelled due to high winds and hail in coastal areas.

Residents in Katoomba described the snowfall as the heaviest they had seen.

Forecasters predict the cold weather will give way to warmer temperatures over the weekend.

  Proper snow too!

Temperatures here in UK are supposed to plummet at the start of the weekend.

Possible afternoon shower and 18C here in Devonport and we are considerably closer to the south pole than they are  (although they are at  much higher elevation)

It got to 5 deg on the freeway the day the front passed through SA. One more degree lower and I would have seen the orange light in the dash come on and the sound. Still haven't seen it yet  :foottap: :(

I work as a locum pharmacist, filling in for people on holidays. The Friday before last I was working in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney and it snowed. The following Friday I was in Griffith in the Riverina area of NSW and it was 33 degrees C.
Makes it rather hard to work out what clothes to take for a week.

At least two weeks ago that cold front hit us.  News travels slow to the UK.  Maybe the mail planes to the old country are those Sunderland Flying boats, stop here, stop there.

Yes we got about 8C the day the front hit us, today a balmy 25C, just about to hit the beach. (That will make our British friend jealous!)
