Hi folks,

What do you reckon the cost would be for switching the SLX alloys over to the SR alloys?  Is this even possible?

'Course, I could talk to my dealership about this, but as with quite a few states its a long weekend this weekend.  And I want to know now.

Bad news I'm afraid (They will trade your SLX wheels but you'll only get a nominal amount) From previous discussions on this site cant see much change out of $2000 to do this... You'd want to be keen!

Talk to your dealer to be sure but one of our other members got some SR wheels ordered and took months to come from Korea.

Hi to everybody,

My opinion is that the best thing is to change the front tires with new ones and at every second change the all 4.It is better to replace the fronts with new than to use the rears and even bad to use the fronts in back...What you will get?...a car very instable and especially for cars with front power drive.
Alternative you can switch as: assymetrical tread diagonial and symmetrical the front to the back in the same direction at every 15-20.000 km

Hi Grug,

I was probably the member that Dazz was talking about who changed the SLX wheels for the SR wheels.

It all happened because they stuffed up my original i30 order and my CRDI i30 SLX arrived 4 months after ordering minus the extra "Protectz Pack (...ESP,etc). So instead of re-ordering the car with the safety pack and waiting for another 3-4 months, I decided to accept the car minus the Safety Pack and did a deal by which they would swap 4 of the original SLX wheels and tyres for 4 of the SR wheels and tyres.  

So, in essence I got 4 SR wheels and tyres, ( each SR alloy wheel was valued at $800 and the tyres at $175 a piece...a total close to $4000) for my 4 SLX alloys and tyres plus the $990 I had already allowed for the safety pack. Seemed a good deal at the time...I really liked the SR alloys and the fact that they were bigger in diameter and the tyres were wider was a bonus.

Only draw back was they discovered there weren't any readily available in Australia so they had to come from Korea!!! So I drove around for 3 months on the original wheels and tyres ( which at that stage technically belonged to the dealership) before getting the brand new SR ones put on. Guess I could have waited for a new car after all!!! But I'm quite happy with the deal....I think the SLX looks great naturally but now looks even better with the SR wheels. ( And I still have one original SLX wheel and tyre as the spare)

So I guess this is the benchmark at present for trading 4 SLX wheels/tyres for 4 SR wheels/tyres.....ie. $990 plus your SLX ones...and a possibly a few months waiting time.

Did they have to change your steering geometry when you swapped wheels (like another member said?)

Does it feel much different to drive?

But you've still got a SLX spare?  How does this work - isn't it a 16" as opposed to a 17"?

Shouldnt matter too much what diam the rim is.  As long as the higher profile tyre ends up with the same rolling circumference, should be OK for a spare.

Not sure, couldn't find anything via the search function (may have been mentioned previously on H-F forums) But the way I understand it they either use spacers or adjust something if you upgrade to 17" wheels as the turning circle is slightly increased and there can be clearance issues...Eyma and some others have 18" so they might know the story....

If they're the factory fitted 17" rims, you'll have no worries.      If you select other rims (like I did), you'll need to check the offset of the rim to ensure it fits within the Hyundai spec.

I went with these rims (hyper black: look silver/carbon/black depending on light  ):-
