Hi all,

One last problem. Almost everyone I've spoken to have told me that they find it very very hard to hear me when my phone is connected to the i30's Bluetooth system. As soon as I switch to my iPhone 5's speakerphone, they say, "ah, that's better". They say it sounds muffled, and generally difficult to understand.

Hs anyone else had or heard of this problem. I'm going to try resetting the phone settings today and see how that goes.

When you speak are you speaking into the mic which is above your head or are you speaking away from it?

I tend to find that I tilt my head slightly upwards when speaking so I am directing my voice towards the mic.

I have tried all angles. Into it. Behind it. In front of it. Didn't affect it. I made a call yesterday where it WAS working, and tried speaking louder, speaking softer, talking in front of it and behind it. Person I was talking to said it all sounded fine.

Contacted Hyundai Australia on Facebook about the issue - all they said was go go a local dealer.

It's ingesting that no one seems to have had this problem. Makes me wonder if it's a problem with the phone or a problem with the car's system (or perhaps a unique problem with the combination of both). I installed an Alpine unit in my last car, and the Bluetooth worked fine through that. This leads me to believe it may be more to do with the car.

Am still very interested to hear if anyone has had issues with Bluetooth in this way.

I too have had problems with the smartphone bluetooth connectivity, as well as my sister who has also bought a Hyundai i30 (both of us purchased the cars end of last year 2012).  The audio is absolutely terrible.  I can never hear my sister clearly when she calls from her phone (it's muffled and a 'tinny' sounding) and very frustrating for both parties trying to have a conversation.  The other day I called my brother while I was driving in my i30 and used the bluetooth smartphone connectivity.  He could barely make out what I was saying.  He, on the other hand who was also driving, could be heard very clearly and sharply.  He drives a Toyota.  I'm very disappointed to hear that this is an issue with the car.  This is my first brand new car and I feel let down by Hyundai.  I think Hynudai should take responsibility of this and address this issue.  Has anyone else had similar problems?  Maybe my sister, myself and a number of other Hyundai i30 owners have faulty bluetooth microphones (perhaps very cheap ones??)  This should be investigated.  If there are a number of people with this problem perhaps Hyundai should be hearing from all of us.  Really what's the point of having bluethooth smartphone connectivity if it's not working properly.  This sounds like a consumer issue to me.

Welcome to the forum Jasi,

I don't have bluetooth so I can't specifically answer your question. However, if you feel the audio is poor quality you should certainly take it up with your supplying dealer. It appears that you haven't given them the opportunity to fix the problem at all. Also, mobile communications are inherently variable, so it would have to be consistently poor for a legitimate complaint to be made. I can only suggest that at the dealer, make some calls to various people and see if you can demonstrate the problem. Let us know how you get on.  :)

No issues with OURI30.  We've had no audio problems when talking over the bluetooth connection.  The better haf and I have talked for quite some time when I was trying to locate the position of the microphone, tapping here and there to try to discover its location.  Even the various tapping, while not the microphone, could be heard by my wife on the home phone.

By the way, where is the microphone located?

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your suggestion.  I will take it up with the dealer but was hoping to get more feedback from other i30 owners.  The issue does appear to be consistent with my car and my sister's car.  Since we bought our cars together perhaps there's an issue with that particular shipment of cars?  I've given up now having conversations via bluethooth as it's too frustrating.

Regarding the reply from 'Ouri30' I'm curious to know when they purchased their car?  If you read this could you let me know.

Thanks,

Jasi

Hi & welcome Jasi.
I  have a late 2012 GD i30 and I find the Bluetooth really good.
I've never had a problem with inferior sound quality and no complaints from anyone else on the other end of the phone.
I agree you should take it up with your dealership.
Let us know how you go.

The car was manufactured on the 2nd Feb 2013, arrived in Adelaide on a transporter around mid March.  We took delivery Thu before Easter.

It's a Premium which has the same system as the Elite.

 Hope this helps.
