How nice to find an i30 club.

Recently bought an i30 CW (Estate). The CW stands for Cross Wagon here in Germany!
1.6 diesel with the fuel efficient and low CO2 engine. Metallic Grey.

I'm a Brit and for that reason wanted to fly the flag on my last car, so bought a Rover !!!!!!!
Don't laugh.
Have to say I ran it for 8 years and never spent 1 cent on it except for tyres. Even the exhaust looked brand new after 168,000 km. Trust me to buy a car from a manufacturer that went bust.

Love the i30. Only problem was that after the first week, I washed it by hand and the paintwork felt rather odd. It was as if the car was covered (windows and all) with sand. Except for the roof and bonnet.
Went back to the dealer who immediately wanted to blame me for parking near a building site or a building being painted.

Long and short was that after much insistance from me, they got a head huncho from Hyundai Deutschland down to see the car. He confirmed, with a microscope, that the car was indeed covered in either cement or concrete. Reason the bonnet and roof were not was that it must have happened before the shipping foil was removed.. So either in Korea, or when the boat was offloaded in Hamburg and parked up.

They wanted to re-polish it. I said OK but nothing aggresive and if I see any marks on the paintwork, I want a new car.

They've had three tets to remove it, and finally came up with a solution to the problem. It's sprayed with some liquid to desolve the concrete/cement, then padded dry, then using soft stuff like 'playdough' they work all over the car by hand (presumably to pick up and remove the offending polution) then a hand polish.

So a couple of weeks ago and after them spending Euros 750 to have it treated then hand polished, I got it back. Looked great, no more sandy feel. Next day the sun came out .......................Oh no, got all those lovely polishing swirls on it. So back to the garage. I've asked for a new car and on Friday 27th the guy from Hyundai Deutschland is coming to see it.

Here in germany, you have to give a dealer/shop the opportunity to put things right, then if they can't or refuse, you start legal action.

To be fair, I guess the dealer would not have noticed the pollution on the car, it shone great funny thing was my wife, as we collected the car ran her hand over the paintwork - as you do - and said it felt dusty, I said it was probably because it had been standing outside all day (and the area is surrounded by farms constantly ploughing fields).

Even funnier was about 3 weeks ago, whilst in the showroom talking to the guy, I said " I want my car to feel and look brand new, just like this" - as I ran my hand over an i30 saloon in red.
I stopped dead and looked at the salesman, then I said.... I think you have the same paint problem on this one. Sure enough, it's covered in the same stuff. Must have been parked in Hamburg with mine.

So watch this space.

Cheers

Hi coralrover, welcome to the i30 owners club :D

Well, looks like you had a bad experience but I'm sure Hy will sort you out either a new i30 [unlikely] or a new polishing job.

As for having a Rover, I bought a MG/ZR in Dec 2004, the month before they went bust. Buy British eh? Never again.

Welcome again :)

Welcome to the club coralrover :D

The "playdough" that they use is clay, you can buy it yourself from Meguiars.

Welcome coralrover

Hope you get sorted without legal action.

Ps where in UK do you hail from?

I'm from the Wirral and follow the Blues (Everton) not that other team Liverpool.

You're probably closer to home (Essex) than I am to Essex.  And you're in another country!

You are not wrong there, 500km door to door. 3.5 hrs to Calais, 35minutes with the train and 75 minutes the other side.

UNLESS the Antwerp ring has an accident, then add 3 hrs,
or
if the French Farmers/Taxi Drivers/Port Workers/Truck Drivers go on strike, then add 9 hours

By route finder to Dartford Tunnel - 4 hours 5 minutes, assuming clear roads, which it won't be so more like 6 hours!!!

I bet people still love their precious golfs, and think the i30 is crap, there in deutschland, don't they?

And as far as Hyundai goes...more or less I really think they're the same all over the map :)
