G'day,

I've been thinking about an i30 CDRi. From everything I've read and heard they are a great car. My brother-in-law mentioned that he had heard that the i30 is massed produced and is not road tested before selling in Australia.

Now one thing about this statement made me think, "Aren't most cars massed produced anyway?". Besides that, is there any truth to the second part of the statement?

He was considering an i30 but once he heard that and ended up getting a Subaru. I'm guessing it might have come from someone that had a lemon, but wanted to know if anyone had any further info on this.

Cheers

Pish posh in my opinion.

Most cars are produced on a production line as invented by Henry Ford and used widely since then. This system helps keep the price affordable for most people. The cars would pass a quality control test before being released from the factory. They are then prepared for sale by a dealer, which also includes a road test to ensure customer satisfaction. Same procedure for the Subaru, too.

I'm sure you know the difference in price between hand built and production line.

By all accounts, the i30 is a truly great car, not perfect, but depending on what you want and the purpose of the vehicle, there are many happy owners on this site. Occasionally there are complaints but that is a fact of life with any car maker, even the upmarket brands are not immune.

Plus the fact that the i30 features some "Australia only" additions.

I've had 2 Subarus and have no complaints about them at all. However, the i30 I will have owned for 5 years come this November has been completely satisfactory and is way more economical than the Subarus (all petrol enegines).

I've had 28 cars from a dozen different manufacturers and there is nothing wrong with Hyundai, and the i30 has consistently been one of their best models for quality and owner satisfaction!  :goodjob:

That's what I thought, but thought to run it by the panel of experts.  :D

I also figured that a car is not going to get best car awards for no reason.

Its less expensive to maintain. And it runs beautifully.  Has no troubles with torque. I climbed some of the steepest hills in kangaroo valley last weekend. It climb them like it was nothing. My vw golf would have struggled. And with my golf being semi old. I have spent 5,000 in the last year on fixes

No cars can be sold in the market without passing regulated tests and/or legal type approval. So you can just ignore the 2nd statement. Trust your basic instinct.  :D

The brother in law might be interested to know that the i30's we receive in OZ have suspension tuned for Australian conditions.

Thanks for all the responses, lads. More and more keen on the i30.

Just need to find one at the right price and also make sure the wife is happy with it too.

Ive never been a diesel fan, but have had the I30 diesel for two weeks now, and have no real complaints. As others have stated, drive the other small cars, then the deisel i30. We looked at the impreza, jetta, corolla, pulsar and i30 for my wife. I felt all the small petrol cars were gutless, and had to rev the engines to get them to perform (including the petrol i30). I felt acceleration in 6th gear was not satisfactory over 100kph in any of them. Then I drove the diesel i30, and ordered one straight away. Do yourself a favour, and find a steep hill during each test drive, and you will understand what I mean. :happydance:

Airport pick up tomorrow. 4 adults + luggage & we'll still cruise up the 560 metre climb, no worries.  :goodjob2:

Got the i30 CRDi for towing the caravan. Much better than my previous petrol car.  :happydance:
