Bungling council chiefs have been left red-faced after cyclists slammed a brand-new bike lane – which is just four metres long.

The super-short cycle lane – which spans the corner of a kerb and is barely large enough to contain the bike lane markings - was painted in Beetwell Street, Chesterfield this month and was immediately criticised by the town’s cycling community.

Bicycle commuter Will Jones, 22, said: “It makes the council a laughing stock really. “Why on earth would anybody need a cycle lane so short? It’s stupid,” he said.

Looks fine to me compared to what the story says. But I will keep my comments to myself to not get in another pushy debate...... :D

C'mon Reaps, we can do better than that.

From reading the article, it is not a cycle path all by itself, it is part of a larger network.  As with all types of communities, there will always be whingers when the council tries to do something.

I'm a whinger, every time the rates go up.  :Pout:

Makes sense to me if you read the explanation the council gave.....  :undecided:

I reckon those cyclists should be thankful they scored their own lane at all....  :D
