I am still not happy with the electric steering on my GD i30.  :(
As most of you know, I previously owned an FD i30 diesel and had a fantastic run out of it, selling it at 136,000 kms.
My current GD diesel manual has done almost 70,000 kms in 17 months and there is definitely a problem with the electric steering.
I have previously put the car into a Hyundai dealership for a day with the expected result - unable to replicate the fault.
This car has a problem.
At freeway speeds the steering loads up and becomes heavy and it is difficult to change direction.
It still does it and I think it is a real safety issue. Not good enough.
I love Hyundais (have bought several) but I'm not happy with the response from the dealership on this issue.
I will be putting the car into another dealership to see what they say, but it is very inconvenient to be without a car for a whole day +.
I will keep you posted.

Good luck, Dave.  Hopefully they can find the problem and fix it, or replace the faulty part.  There is nothing worse than nothing being found wrong when there is an obvious problem.  Just think about how I feel when I write up a defect on an aircraft, only to have the result being "Nil fault found - Ground test serviceable".

Try another dealer, the Hy then ACCC if no joy from the priors.

Yes it's a PITA but if it's that bad it needs to be sorted. :'(

Thanks guys.
Having recently moved, I thought I'd try the local dealership then go to HA.
I'm not making it up so they need to fix it.
Google electric steering faults Hyundai and lots come up, on all models.
They definitely know about it.

Wonder if they record work or investigations on a central data base so any dealer can access and see the cars history etc

If it's on a central database it will simply add to your credibility IMO.

Yes, I say they'd do.

So they can see the history of the issue and should, therefore, be able to tailor any testing accordingly.

I heard not so long ago regarding a car test that the Electric steering would have the power cut off when driving straight ahead. Don't remember the Brand, though.

Could this be the case here as well...?
