Is the second hand i30 desirable?

How easy has it been for those of you who have sold, to get rid of your i30s? Did you sell privately? Did it take long? I have a moonlight blue SX CRDi with protect pack, just turned over 11,000 kms in Melbourne. Lovely car but.......

I need to swap! I covet the length, extra features and space of the i30 wagon, at least my dogs do. I have always had wagons and it was a major compromise for me to get a hatch. I wish someone had told me a year ago there was going to be wagon; I would gladly have waited.

i reckon that the best money back will most likely be if you try a trade in at the hyundai dealership? not sure...but most of our cars have returned more with a trade in

Hi wynpd..

Have you had a good look at the wagon? there is only about a hundred extra litres and a few inches of extra space....

I would expect the CRDi in Moonlight blue will keep it's value well but unfortunately it is very hard to sell any car privately for a good price (trading on another Hyundai will probably be your best option)

Good luck

1. See what a dealer will give for P/X.

2. Try private sale at P/X plus ??% based on market and see if anyone is interested.
The ??% can be used to negotiate with any interested party.

3. If no takers decide if deal at dealers is worth taking.

Take Daz's comments and just check to see if the wagon is what you need as the hatch may fullfil your needs.

Hi mypd
I am in the bus and hire car game and change vehicles all the time. When you buy a car you expect to loose on it when you find it no longer meets your needs or you have found something you like better [bit like marriage] the longer you have it the more you stand to loose. i have noticed a few I30s coming through the government auctions www.governmentauctions.com.au See what they think they will go for and pick the middle price. Most dealers buy and sell their trades at auctions now so your trade in will be less than the auction price, they want a profit Good Luck

i purchased in march this year an i30 hatch and an i30 wagon and noticed if you purchased a used hatch with around 10,00 to 15,000 kms on it ,you could buy a new one for only two grand more.

this is what i'm noticing myself. have looked about for second hands both private and dealer and the drop only ever seems to be about $2000 at most. e.g QLD trading post currently has a 2008 2.0L Manual SX with 3000k for just over $18500. fairly sure its a private ad as well. because of this i'm thinking of just buying new.

fairly sure its a private ad as well.

In UK if the seller is trader they have to indicate that in the advert.  This is indicated by either a T or trader

Does this not apply in OZ?

yes you're right, some of the other ads do have a T on them
i never realised it was a requirement.  :)

so for a private sale its quite expensive i think. i'd rather buy it new - only difference would be on road costs and you can haggle on that as well, yes?

I found this also, even amongst dealers and the demo models are only 1-2000 dollars cheaper than the new one plus being a demo its had a bit of a harder life @ new so for the money i decided to go new :)

Plus i had some stricter requirements , i.e. ESP, not black/white or red, manual and diesel, I only ever saw 1-2 cars advertised that met this requirement and they generally had 40,000km's+ on them, with the long warranty they still wanted top dollar for them.

I think because of the above and the overall quality of the car people just dont want to get rid of them yet (and why would they !) so the secondhand market for them is commanding good dollars.

That is good news... The word around the traps even with people who aren't big Hyundai fans is that the diesel (in particular) is going to hold its price well, with at least some of the premium (for the diesel model) being recouped on re-sale.

Your comments would support this further... :D

After one year ownership of my SR auto, I lost over $10000 :( I had it in the quokka for a few weeks and only received one phone call from a guy, he enquiried about the price and didn't bother to negotiate after I told him the price I wanted. I ended up traded it for $20500 for my new compact 4WD. Last week I brought my car back for the first service and saw my beloved i30 (used to be) was still sitting in the car yard with the $26000 price tag on her windscreen

I've seen a lot of i30 on the road these days, so it's worth to sell it privately for 2 weeks before trade it in, beside I think the diesel model is sought after more than the petrol one.By the way, I just sold my Subaru Impreza  privately after one week had it in the newspaper. In my opinion, the i30 is a far better car in almost every aspects compare to the Impreza. Unfortunately, people are still willing to pay more for the brand name when choosing to buy their car. Well, after 5 months of owning the Impreza, Subaru will be no longer in my future buying list.

When you sell the car you may lose 1/3value of it but if you change the wife, you bloody loose 2/3 of everything you have

i think the tide is turning. i'm seeing quite a few i30's around my region now - they may even become a bit of a 'beige' car. i've tried looking for used/demo models of SLX auto and petrol. seem to be just about non-existant or virtually brand new price, more diesels and manuals about. i think you could get the asking price if you're willing to wait it out, and trade-ins will always give you less than private sale won't they?
