From: :link: VIDEO: Man with no seat-belt flies out of convertible | Rekord East

I found this on another forum I frequent - one of the members' son captured this with his dashcam and it is busy going viral on social media in and around Cape Town in South Africa.

:link: Cape Town N2 Accident - YouTube

The three occupants of the car survived. The third occupant was still in the car and the poster of the video dragged him away shortly before the car caught fire.

Always wear your seatbelts folks!

Mods please remove if this is not allowed; I am not sure if it would be categorized as violent or sensitive content :sweating:

Notice the roll protection in the rear seat activated on initial impact and the hazard warning lights activated themselves.

All of the occupants survived, but I wouldn't want their bodies the next day...

From the forum I found the video on:

Quote
CTOWN ACTOR DIES IN CRASH

The Western Cape government on Tuesday mourned the loss of Cape Town actor and musician Thabang Sidloyi in a car accident.

Provincial transport MEC Donald Grant said Sidloyi, 27, was flung from a BMW convertible on the N2 on Friday evening.

According to provincial traffic services, it was believed that three cars were involved in the crash on the N2 and that the BMW allegedly lost control around 8pm.

A video of the accident was posted online and showed the BMW clipping a car in the middle lane and then swerving over the fast lane into a concrete barrier wall.

Sidloyi was seen flung from the BMW before the vehicle bounced off the barrier, travelled across the lanes, and ended up next to the side of the highway.

"Early indications suggest that Sidloyi may have not been buckled up in the vehicle at the time of the crash. This is too often the case in a country with low compliance levels when it comes to restraints," Grant said.

He said road deaths were avoidable through responsible road use.

Excessive speeds, alcohol consumption and failure to wear a seatbelt remained the biggest problems.

"The Western Cape government extends its deepest condolences to Sidloyi's family and loved ones."

Sidloyi, from Gugulethu, was best known for his role in the 2012 Irish/South African film "The Good Man".

RIP :(

Our law enforcement is way too lax over here and they frequently overlook things that should at least earn points against your name on your drivers' license.

One day when I buy myself a nice dash cam I will post up a video of what really goes on here in our town and how reckless the people can drive, all to shave maybe a few seconds off their journey.

The driver of the BMW that caused the accident would be accused of reckless driving as he overtook on the left hand side of the triple-lane carriageway, whilst speeding and not ensuring the safety of his or her passengers by making them wear safety belts, so possibly culpable homicide as well as endangering the lives of others. :fum:

:disapp: I was surprised when you said he survived..

I think most of us that have got used to compulsory seat belt wearing in Oz would feel very vulnerable if we didn't wear them!  :sweating:

I have seen people in worse accidents that have survived, but I think it all comes down to how the luck of the draw is. For this bloke unfortunately it seems his time was up.

Are the laws over there very strict regarding seatbelts? My mother drilled wearing a seatbelt into me, when I climb into a car it is the first thing I do after I pull the door closed. My dad always laughs at me when I leave the farm and habitually put my belt on even though in my mind I know that a kilometre down the driveway I have to get out anyways to open a gate

The fines vary State to State in Australia, but wearing of seatbelts is compulsory and heavily policed. This makes compliance very high..  :goodjob:
