Apparently only three out of over eighty federal death penalties have been carried out over the last twenty years. 

I've said it before, I'll say it again.  The death penalty doesn't free up the legal system, it does the opposite!!  It is not a deterrent, otherwise these crimes wouldn't occur.  Life in jail with no parole is a more civilised way to deal with this.

But yes, where are the media? Conspicuous by their absence.

But instead they try to elevate the drug dealers to hero status.

But justified. 
Killing innocent people is barbaric. That's what ISIS does. Very barbarically (beheading, burning alive, etc), for nothing more than not being their sort of Muslim.
That's what these bombers did - killed innocent people.
Carrying out executions on barbaric people who committed barbaric crimes is a part of the justice system in some countries (not Australia).
Respect their laws.
Those barbaric bombers knew they faced the death penalty if caught killing innocent people, including women and children.
So they chose their own demise.
If I was a U.S. citizen I would not want any of my hard-earned dollars keeping those barbaric people breathing for one minute longer than necessary.
In my opinion, that's the (vast) difference.
I do not seek to change your mind. You are perfectly entitled to your view on the death penalty.

Here's a thought...

If the killer of a human being by another human being was punished by death, how long would it take for the entire world to perish? Of course, there'd be one human left at the end who'd have to kill himself I guess.

To ISIS, the killings are justified, just as some people believe that the execution of the Boston Bomber is justified.  Respect their rules.  Aid workers that go to Syria and Iraq know if they are caught then they will more than likely be executed.   

BTW, I don't believe the ISIS or Boston Bomber killings are justified, and I don't have to respect their decision to do them (the ISIS executions and actual bombing of the marathon).  Likewise, I don't think that the execution of the bomber is justified.  I will however, respect the umpires' decision.

As for the US tax-payer funding these barbaric bombers for any more than is required.  It is highly unlikely that they will be executed in the next twenty years, and the courts will be filled with appeal after appeal.  Hardly a quick or cheap solution.

However, I will add that I believe that you should abide by the rules of the country where you are, and accept any punishment that they deem appropriate.  I'm really not looking forward to my trip to Brunei next month.
