just wondering, i noticed that Hyundai has a "iPod / iPhone connection cable", can i assume that that is a cable that allows for audio from apps and sounds from apps (not just music from the iPod / iPhone). i suppose I'm really asking for there is a difference in the Hyundai cable over the one apple supplies?

i have 3 apple cables here so leaving one in the car will not be a problem.

and yes i am a apple user :D

I haven't got an ipod of any sort so didn't bother with the Hyundai ipod cable either but the normal ipod cables won't give you full functionality and a few have tried to make their own.

Your best bet is to try and pick one up for around A$60 or so via ebay or off another member on here .. someone will explain the extra things the proper Hyundai cable will let you do.

You need the Hyundai cable for full functionality as Dazz says, I don't have an ipod that works cos the Shuffle is not supported and can't be seen by the i30, so I am not quite sure what goes missing.

Be aware however that 4th generation Nano's also lose more functionality compared to the previous generations (eg they won't charge in the car!!), so I am guessing that unless Hyundai have upgraded the software that anything newer will suffer the same, even with the official cable.

Yeah I found that out earlier. Was thinking that the cable must be made of gold lol.

I will wait until I have the car then may order one of thoes $60 ones off buy and sell section of this site.

on a side note, this site works fine on the iPhone from which I have posted this reply. So now I have www.i30ownersgroup.com in my pocket :) (if that's a good thing!)

I complain about the 7.something inch screen on my Netbook after using my 24" main computer... so don't know how I would cope with a 2" or 3" screen...

Can use the net via my Sony K850i Phone but haven't bothered so far..

I got the Hyundai cable included when I bought my SLX, and it works a treat. Husband wanted to charge his iPhone 3G on the drive home from work one day (so he could continue playing a game) and tried to use the normal iPod cable - it didn't like it and nothing happened. Had to use the Hyundai one for the charging to actually work.

Hey just noticed that the ipod cable has come down in price, i think it is listed as RRP $75 now instead of the $100+ that it was previously.

Guess they dropped it to be in line with Kia price for basically the same cable....

it good to see it drop but, damn it's still an expensive cable. it would have cost $3 - $5 to make and i can see the sales person grinning like a Cheshire cat when someone asks for one. /end of rant

just found out a neighbor just got a job working in spare parts for Nissan / Hyundai, might see what he can do for me :D

I've purchased a cable during my car purchase to use with my iphone 3g.

I have just sent a request to dealextreme ( http://www.dealextreme.com/ ) to supply this cable. If anyone can get a clone made and sold for under $10, it's dealextreme.

My iPod touch works just fine and charges with the Hyundai cable. In the UK this cable came as standard with the car. Seems odd that its not included in other countries.

I've noticed a number of items reported on this site as extra's which are standard on UK models.  I think in Oz the ipod cable is = £100 gbp what!!! £100gbp for an 18 inch length of cable with 2 connectors.

There will be a good explanation from Hy Korea i.e. market requirements, but surely the law of mass production and subsequent fitting must mean the items cost is negligable in the global market.
  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

Not quite that bad m8.. about half that... A$110 although someone said the other day that had been reduced to A$75 and around A$60 on ebay I believe..

Over here it seems to rely on market forces prices are set on the basis of they are worth what the average person is prepared to pay...

A Blackberry definitely doesn't work with a USB cable although it charges the battery, at least I'll not have to use the bulky car type 'phone charger.

I don't know much about blackberries except they make nice jam... but can you add a memory card to them?

If so will it detect music on that?

I was thinking that I could use it hands-free through the audio system Dazz.
It's pretty (rap so I'll probably change it when my BT Broadband Anywhere contract is up. It takes an age to 'boot up', if that's what it's called, and if I ever needed to make an emergency call it would be too late by the time it was functional

Seems to be luck of the draw. I got 2 iPod cables, 2 remote key fobs and 5 alloys (sorry eye).

The Blackberry would not work due to the usb port being used for syncronisation of data from the device to a PC, it would not see the device as a usb drive as such. It all comes down to what the radio see's and what it can work with.
