Are you of the 'if it don't hover why bother?' brigade?  :)

As to the i30 - like all cars there are some 'known' issues.

Guess the question to ask - are you buying new? or 2nd hand? If the latter - there are two body types FD (1st Gen) & GD (2nd Gen) the production change was 2011 (with the GDs starting Sep 2011).  So a car sold in 2012 could be either (but more likely GD).

Anyway welcome

 :welcome: Hughie!

I believe either model of the i30 (FD and GD) are among the most reliable cars on the market.

The 1.6 Diesel motor (in particular) is  very impressive and reliable. All 3 petrol motors are impressive and reliable in their own way too.

There have been some problems with the Electric Power Steering (EPS) in both models, but Hyundai is now starting to acknowledge that as a warranty issue. The other main failure has been the 4 speed auto Transmission in some FD models. Also now being (mostly) fixed under warranty.

My top picks would be a low mileage Manual Diesel FD Hatch or CW (with a complete service history) or a 1.6 Manual or Dual Clutch Auto 1.6 Petrol or Diesel GDe Tourer.  :winker:

As the FD had the 4 speed auto , I would tend to lean towards the GD.
My pick would be a GD diesel 6 speed auto.

D'oH! Obviously not.   I must have missed the 12/62 (for non-British members - cars registered Mar12-Feb13) plate part when responding.

Cool - make sure the auto is 6-speed, then you will be getting a GD (new/2nd generation) i30.   For the above stated reason of production change over - though probably more likely to apply to 12 plate than 62 plate (if at all).
