Gday all .

Wondering if anyone knows how to fix this ?

One day my wife mentioned that she couldn't close the fuel cap on her I30CW after filling up .
When I had a look I noticed the plastic latch on the end of the fuel release cable was flush with the hole in the plastic fuel filler surround (bit hard to describe but I think you get the idea?) .
Anyway , when I tried to coax it out with a little flat blade screwdriver it disappeared behind the plastic surround .
So for months we have just been taping the fuel cap cover closed .. but high time I did something about this.

Just had a look before and it looks like maybe ? the area around where that latch pokes out might ? be able to unclip so I can get some sort of access to try and find the end of the cable .

Anyone know ? or have any suggestions ?

Anyone had this same problem ?

Cheers
Dave

Sorry Dave but I can't picture what you're talking about.
Most fuel filler door problems reported on here are of being unable to open it.
Can you post a photo of the offending "plastic latch"?

Are you still within warranty?

Ifso, just get dealer to fix.

Yeah .. figured a pic might be in order .. will take one tomorrow and post.

The plastic catch is on the end of the fuel door release cable .. the fuel door flap is held closed by that plastic catch .. when you pull the door release cable (beside the drivers seat ) you effectively pull the catch away from the door flap so the flap opens .
In my case the plastic catch is not there now so there is nothing to latch the fuel door flap closed . The latch has disappeared behind the plastic fuel filler surround .

Car is almost 7 years old so well out of warranty now

Sounds like the tab has broken off. If so you will need a new cable.

Ive not done a fuel release cable for a long time but there is a fair bit of stuffin around.
Seats out some carpet up boot trims out, all that stuff. And the latch itself is in an awkward position between inner and outer skin panels.

hmm .. sounds like much easier to just keep the flap taped shut with electrical tape like we have been doing . White tape for a white car LOL

Could you epoxy one of these in a suitable location to hold the flap shut.
