Hi everybody!
I recently bought a second hand 1.6 crdi Classic that comes rather with not many extras... The thing is that I got myself a leather steering wheel which has audio controls on it. So I just fitted it pluggin the cable was coming with in to its socket to find out that the audio controls don't work...

A friend of mine suggested that the cable may not be connected in the back of the radio, so with his help I took the panel the radio out (that was bit scary but it went ok) and I saw what was looking a spare cable nearby the radio (we thought it may be the one from the audio controls in the steering wheel) but there were not empty sockets in the back of the radio!!!!

Is this model of the radio not accepting the controls? Or the spare cable I have is not related at all with the problem and the reason for the controls not working is something else?

I'm a little bit puzzled here guys so any help would be very much appreciated... Thanks!!!!

Can you take a picture of that small connector

Maybe if it is lower model your airbag spiral cable dont  have multimedia or cruise control wires connected.

Welcome. There are topics on here about adding Audio controls and pretty sure they mention a different wiring loom is needed as well. Wonder if you can get this from the same place you got the Wheel? I'll look for some of the threads later if you can't find them with a search or browse through the modify section...

You'll most likely need a clock spring from a model that has the audio controls.

Take the plastic off around the steering column and unplug the cable going into the clock spring from behind.

It should have 4 pins in it. If it only has 2 then that should be your problem.

I have an 09 i30 CW (Korean built) and the wiring was all there, I just needed to change the clock spring.

Yep, it was the clock sping part of the wheel assembly that is different. Not the wiring loom. Sorry I haven't had a chance to post any links. Been in the garden most of the day and only been using tapatalk when inside, which is not very good to search with. You could try putting "clock spring" into our search engine.

No worries, be sure to disconnect your battery as you'll need to disconnect the airbag.
It's a pretty easy swap with the right tools

Hello everybody, I have to say that you were absolutly right regarding the clock spring. I found a way though to make it work without changing the clock spring, let me explain it...

The factory clock spring that comes with the basic model has only one row of pins (4 pins) in the lower part of the connector, but the cables for the audio control they go in the top row of pins of the connector, where there are no pins at all in the clock spring as we know already... The thing is that only two cables from the audio control connector are really needed to control remotely the radio... and in the factory fit clock spring which has 4 pins, only one is actually in use... So you can guess the rest: I took the first and the second cables from the audio botoms and swap the position from the upper row where they are to the lower row of the connector, using the free pins position 2 and 3.

You have to do exactly the same thing with the connector that goes to the other side of the clock spring: So you change the first and second cables from the upper line of the connector and place them in the lower row of the connector, where there are a couple of pins free to use waiting for you  :P

ONE WORD OF CAUTION: Before anything else please:

1.- Identify the cables properly making sure you choose the two you need. The best way to find out is using a cable to bridge both connectors avoiding the clock spring as middle point. If I rememberit right the cables you need "to link" are the GREY COLOR in the upper connector with the BLACK One in the lower connector that goes into the clock spring . And the RED CABLE in the upper connector with the GREEN ONE in the bottom connector that goes into the clock spring (Sorry but I don't have pictures, I was rushing it trough to finish it off during my lunch break). I may remember the colors wrong but in any case the cables are THE FIRST AND THE SECOND in both cases.

2.- Be really careful and patient to pull the little cables out of their corresponding position in the connector, they are tiny and they may get damaged... It took me a while to pull them out and swap their position, but don't give this can be done.

I have to excuse myself for my terrible English, I hope I made myself understood. I hope this may be of interest guys, and again THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! You put me in the right track.  :goodjob2:

P.S. Lacking my own pictures I could borrow the ones in the previous thread you showed me, but I didn't know how to do it or if that is even possible... Sorry

P.S. 2 .- I know that this is not the subject but could you point me out a thread where which shock absorber goes well to our model? I need to replace my front ones and shopping aroun in ebay I got myself a good deal from Germany for a pair of KYB but when they arrived the model doesn't fit, the spring holder is got a different shape and size... and it happens that this particular model that doesn't fit it's offered to me from different providers because seemingly they should fit in my model... Bit puzzled... Thanks again

Great post Ikerlondon and well done, your English was fine. Start a new post about your suspension question, you are much more likely to get replies.
