Hi guys, I just bought and received my DRL's which I bought from here: :link: Genuine Parts LED DRL FOG Light Lamp Cover Wire FOR Hyundai 2013 2016 Elantra GT | eBay

I was hoping it would come with some sort of instructions... but it did not.

I am a complete newb regarding this kind of stuff, is there like instructions somewhere online or on these forums? Or is it quite difficult in which case I should go to a mechanic?

Apologies for the newbiness and would really appreciate some help!

You'll need an auto electrician as the DRL's require extra wiring over just the fog lights, there might even be a completely different wiring harness needed including fuse/relay :undecided:

As you admit to being a newb, I assume that applies to the electrical connections.

Essentially, there are 2 functions to be performed.

1. Physical installation of the devices. This can be simple or complicated, depending what it is you're installing. For example, the DRL's should not be too difficult as compared to installing cruise control which can only be a job for an experienced person.

2. Electrical connections are 12volts + all throughout the car's wiring system and the chassis is a 0v. There are many wires and you have to connect to the correct ones.

I would suggest the if you know someone who could explain and guide you to fit the DRL's you could do the job under supervision. If not, get an auto electrician to do it, you won't learn anything this way though.

Okay appreciate the responses.

Yes Phil I was hoping I could try and do this myself and learn a thing or two.

I saw in a past thread someone talking about a "universal drl harness", is this something I will require? (:link: GD i30 DRL Installation Australia Premium - Can't find side light fuse location)

Cheers :)

The DRL'S by law, in Australia have to extinguish themselves when the main lights are switched on. This is why they are not a simple installation.

The mandatory effect of lighting only when the headlights are off is achieved through the addition of extra wiring to power the DRLs as well as a double pole double throw relay slaved off your headlight line. This is what a 'universal' harness should provide for you. :goodjob:

Any chance someone could link the correct harness I should get? I had a look on ebay and there seem to be a lot and I'm not really sure which is the correct one..

I would do that connecting the DRL to a "permanent" fuse. Also positive wire shoukd pass throught of a relay, with the "activator" would be main lights signal.

I think the difficult part is the physical installation (I guess you have to remove the bumper).

By the way, it's not 12v + and 12v negative, it would make 24v difference. It is 12v+ and mass or 0v. You can connect this wire to any screw in the metal body (chassis or metal body is connected to negative pole of the battery)

With fuse connection I mean something like this:

The original circuit keep their fuse and you have to add another fuse to protect your circuit (DRL in your case)

Maybe this is a help, it's an Elantra:
