Hi All, as you can see, new member here.

Had an issue appear today of car being unable to hold an idle.

Had the RAC out, and they got a P0011 fault (although CEL wasn't on). Have read that it's not likely the cam shaft sensor itself, but the OCV. Can anyone let me know both it's, and it's filters location on the 1.4 petrol engine? Going to try cleaning the filter before I buy anything!

Thanks!

Hi All, just to update this for any future searches...

I took it to a garage today, and unfortunately I was wrong. They pulled the OCV and filter and both were clean, tested and reinstalled, and didn't help.

Turns out that the chain has slipped a tooth  :'(   :(  :blubber: :blubber:

I Think we had someway in Finland with a 1.4 with something in the timing area  failing / jumping needing the head rebuilt  as the valves then crashed into the pistons.

So I guess the timing components are being replaced, chain , tensioners etc?

Yes, I saw that thread. Fortunately it seems it's only skipped one tooth, so no obvious damage to valves and pistons, just running very roughly, and stalling instead of idling.

There has been a noise at startup for a few months, which I assumed was the starter motor. It turns out it was most likely the loose chain.

Full kit of tensioners, chain etc being replaced, and all sensors being checked for operation. Garage will need it for 10 days as I wasn't booked in, but I have a loan car from them. Costing £600 which is probably more than some would charge, but I do t want to risk driving it any further!

I think you are doing the right thing. Unlucky but lucky at the same time.   :scared:

Exactly. Took a while to explain to my wife how lucky I was.

When I explained that if it had been worse, it would likely have meant buying a new car, she grasped how lucky I was!

Turns out my situation was almost exactly the same, just didn't do the hill start!

Seems I'm even luckier than I thought!
