I've got a genuine towbar pack on my i30 which I've finally got around to trying out.
When I bought the car they supplied an adaptor converting the flat 7 pin plug to a round 7 pin plug as my trailer uses the later (well, actually it has a 5 pin plug) No probs, I thought....just a simple job to rewire the adaptor to suit.
Once finished all lights & blinkers worked fine.....except, for some reason the dash lights come on when I apply the brake. Now I've checked and double checked everything and I'm stumped as to why this should happen, obviously I'm missing something....unless of course the problem lies with the dealers job of fitting the towbar wiring harness.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Russell

Thanks for your suggestions and link, agentr31...

I did check online (I found this site) just to be 100% sure I had it hooked up right.

I was thinking a possible bad earth as you suggested so will check that tomorrow.
In saying that tho, I'm pretty confident the trailer is ok as it all worked perfectly hooked up to my previous car.

Thanks again....cheers  :)

Check again the wiring you used in the adapter... slowly :)

There are so many standards that it's too easy to get the "wires crossed". I am having trouble guessing what might be wired wrong though to cause your symptom. Common to the dash lights and the trailer is that the dash lights are lit when the parkers are, but what this might mean I don't know. Circuits do interact when the common earth has poor contact resistance or is wired in series with some other light  by mistake.

You will find it I'm sure by a methodical trace of what goes to what.
