I have found several posts about this subject, but none of them have a result as to the cause.  Can anyone please shed some light on this subject for me.  The car is a 2010 FD i30 hatchback.

1. Replaced both side light globes with new ones
2. centre brake light in boot lid is functioning correctly.
3. Brake switch was replaced through recall (but would not explain why one set of lights don't work when other does.
4. Tested power to both sides of globe socket. Running (tail) light 12v, brake 0v.  eliminates earth.

Does any one know of any further tests and/or fixes for this problem.
Is it just ours or are this model of i30an electrical lemon.  Headlights constantly blow, window switches constantly breaking, electric power steering rack replaced and unknown number of recalls for different relays, switches and software upgrades.


Someone please help me, I can't even sell it and get something new without resolving this issue, and Hyundai were no help either.

Why sell a great model?  check O volts at tail lights.  Nothing? Then ask yourself why is only hatch  working.    Maybe God loves my hatch?  If suspicious trace wiring between hatch and tail lights. =  Result

Sounds like you have been unlucky, as Gary has suggested they are generally a relatively trouble free car. Some owners have had similar issues but generally not all combined. The headlight blowing in the diesel (which I assume it is) is related to poor earthing of the light which is apparently an easy fix. The window switch issue is a bit of a pain but I think it is a reasonably easy DIY. Plenty of info and expertise on here to help with most of those gremlins.

Thanks for that. The wire tracing was my next step but thought I’d ask just in case some one had an answer for me that could give me something more direct as a starting point.
Petrol i30. Agreed in regards to the car as a good all rounder but after continually being plagued with electrical issues time it’s time to upgrade.

Mate you are missing the obvious, rear brake lights are an easy fix

Similarly:

This is life in the real world. Your next car, house , bike, woman, will have all these problems

Just fix the FD and enjoy it.
