Libby wanted an unusual planter for the front of the house - so I made her one.
She then decided that they would be great birthday gifts for friends and family - and solve her problem mithering over what to buy who. So I get a request for 9.
I made two more planters today – outstanding orders are now 7 for which I await the delivery of the decking planks.
I’ve lost count of the number of pedestrians walking along our road who have asked where they can get one from. There must be a lively market for them – but just the cost of materials for each planter comes to £14.20 of which £3.30 is for the 84 screws holding the contraption together. Add to that the cost of labour – even at the basic living wage it would add another 20 pounds making a total cost of about £35. Now add 50% profit to encourage me to get out of bed and we reach more than £50.
I don’t think many people would willingly pay that much.
To speed things up I made this jig to hold the components in position during assembly.
