hi has anyone experienced, a scrapping noise when turning the steering wheel from lock to lock, the flexible coupling/ spider gear was replaced 16/11/22
now this noise has developed, the dealer is telling me they have traced the fault too worn steering column bearings, needs replacing customer to rebook
(meaning find a s/hand column for them to fit) as new is obsolete, I cannot find an exploded view of the column to see what parts might be worn?
I'm having a local mechanic, remove it to investigate

THE Hyundai ACTIVE is a 2013 1.8lt, DOHC GD, ATM ENGINE G4NB, VIN KMHD251

I cannot find an exploded view of the column

Enter your VIN at http://partsouq.com and you'll be able to find & drill into the steering section to see an exploded view. I believe.

I had a scraping noise on a Ford many years ago, it was the steering clock spring.

Interesting. In 2022 I had my steering bush (the little star shaped plastic thing that disintegrates) and clock spring replaced in the steering wheel on my 2012 GD. About 3-6 months later I started noticing a bit of a light scraping noise when turning my steering wheel fast, less noticeable when slow.

On my next service I had the mechanic have a look. He used a stethoscope to isolate the source of the noise, and claimed it was coming from the electric motor assembly that sits on the side of the steering column. This could possibly be the same thing that your dealer is mentioning?

I'd be very surprised that a particular part would be obsolete. Perhaps the dealer just doesn't want to replace only a single component?

Anyway, the mechanic said he could replace, or we could just monitor it. I said I will keep an eye on it. That was 2.5 years ago and I don't notice the noise anymore (it might still be there and I'm just used to it?). Car still drives fine!

Pretty sure I had that on my FD.
I felt it was something touching the plastic shrouds around the column. It never got any worse and like the poster above, eventually I didn’t notice it anymore.
Certainly had no effect on the steering at all and never got any worse.

Just as an aside, If you’re near Fulcrum suspension they know what they’re doing.
