So, after more than 5 years in the IDF and 100 days to my release...
I wanted to see how many members in this community served their country

I'm in my permanent service (after 3 years of mandatory service) and my rank is Master Sergeant
my main job is a programmer but I do much more..
I was in the army during the "2nd Lebanon War" and operation "Cast Lead"
I also used a discount on the Hyundai cars in the begining of the year for military service men (these day we have on Citroen and Peugeot)
and that's about it..

so give us the details about your service, what did you and where did you serve...

Never had any interest in the services. If I was forced into it (conscription) I would choose the airforce though.

2i30's is actually Barry Sheene

Like Shambles if we had national service I would have tried for air force, however I suspect my dodgy eyesight would have left me on the ground

My great-grandfather was too young to serve in WWI and too old for WWII, but he was in the Home Guard for II, Interphase will appreciate the humour when I say that I think he was given a stick and told to keep the enemy out of Echt

For the rest of you here is a link and yes the first picture is the village in it's entirety!

Brian, you have stated a fact that you could only guess. As a Commisioning Engineer for over 30 years, Echt was the only place where I was given protection from a Gangmaster (Scott)  & his entourage ; when threatened with physical violence for carrying out normal engineering duties as instructed by Transco (now National Grid)
Mike.

not particularly much call for females to join service in australia when i was younger, in fact it was quite difficult to get in unless you were in the reserves or talented in a trade, and then still difficult.

^yeah you tell'm

and if you ever want to complain about women's lib or women being too naggy etc, then you only have yourselves and your little wars to blame. if women didn't have to step up to the plate and look after everything back home and realise hey i can do this better than they can, you wouldn't be in this mess.

Really fun to drive with skis mounted on the motorcycle in the winter...

Was quite keen to join the Navy when I was 15, trouble is we had just moved from Australia to Holland and though I had spent a year at school I was not really caught up.
What I mean is I was between two ways of life and to some degree cultures. The medical people thought was it better I settle in for another year as it seems I only 'just' did not pass.

After this I tried the dutch Police in Delft but with similar results.. So I finished Tech and got an apprenticeship instead.
Came back to Australia where I missed conscription as it had been ended by the Whitlam government in 1972 so one could say it was perhaps 'not meant to be'

My father served with the Dutch Army during world war 2 as a Sargent Major and was later stationed in Indonesia before demobilisation.
