Hello Everyone

Has anyone had their car's EPS light come ON? I've had it come ON on 5 occasions now. I did talk to the service guy when I gave my car in for the 52k service. They said they found nothing wrong.
It only happens sometimes. When I start the car the EPS light stays ON and i can't move the steering at all, it becomes very very hard , like as if it had no power steering. Then I have to turn the engine off and start it again and its gone. I'm not sure if it will happen but I'm just worried that if it happens while driving then I'm....  :'(

Normally car makers build in a failsafe mode that will allow safe operation if this type of thing fails.  Shouldn't be happening though . . .

Yeah mine's come on two or three times, but it never overly concerned me.  I don't notice it until I'm driving, so I never know if the car started like that or if it came on whilst driving.  I can't seem to turn it off without turning off the engine first.  Never noticed anything with the steering on those occasions though.

This is an eps issue Steve not an esp one

Definitely need it checking out, especially if it's to do with the wiring loop chafing as David linked to in his post

My initial instinct would be to go for an ECU reset, disconnecting the -ve battery lead for half an hour then reconnecting, just to rule out a software glitch/spike.

Any issue like this I'd be back to dealers ASAP and make full use of the warranty.

Also, don't forget the safety factor.  If the light is on then the module IS NOT OPERATING which may, unintentionally, contribute to an accident.

So had the service guys check the problem today, they said the computer showed some errors. I don't have it in writing so I can't tell you what exactly it is. He did say that he will send it to me, so I'll put it up asap.

I did get a loan car even if it was for like 3 hrs. Had a Honda Civic. Can the dash be any bigger??? It only had 28800 on the odo but had a tendency to steer left on its own. Found the steering a bit odd, cause it has an edge on which your palm sits ON when doing those one had turning manouvers (we do this especially when reversing). Road noise a bit more than the i30, it had Goodyear tyres, while my i30 has Bridgestone 'Pertonza'(? something like that :) ). Anyways just my observation and opinions. :) Had to press a 'button' to see the what the outside temperature was like :) . Similar to the i30 the odo and trip instruments cannot be seen properly when sunlight hits it directly. Doesn't have the rear hand rest with cup holders :( . The front cup holders cannot hold the big 1.25 ltrs 'Pump' water bottles (My Aus friends would know what I'm talking about.) The i30 can. :)

Cheers!!! :)

I once went to view a car advertised with ABS.

When I drove it then looked under the bonnet there was no ABS.

So when I asked the seller about the ABS they replied

Wait for it

wait a bit longer

Hi,
I have a 2007 I 30.  My EPS light was coming on quite often, when it comes on the steering locks up and is so hard to steer, i had it happen when i was driving and also when i was stopped at the traffic lights.  It is extremely dangerous as you cant steer properly.

I took the car to hyundai to get fixed under warranty.  They said they reset the computer and said it was fine.
the next day when i was driving around a round about the light came back on and my wheel locked up again and i nearly crashed my car.

My car is now back at hyundai today getting fixed, they said they have had to order a part in and i'll have my car back tomorrow.

I really hope that they will be 100% that this problem doesnt happen again, it is so scary.

That sounded very serious, and I can imagine how tough the wheel was to turn.

As Lorian said, it would be useful for us to know what was replaced
