  • 2010 SLX CRD 1.6 Manual. <3 (continental silver)
I have been so careful where i have been parking, making sure i don't park  too close to other parked cars. After the football yesterday i returned to my car to find that the 4WD i had parked next to had left me a love bite. It had gone and the passenger had obviously opened the door into mine. The result was a smallish paint chip but it's very deep and i have bare metal showing. Luckily enough it's not dented.

My dealer tells me that touch up paint for the i30 is not available and i should go to a crash repair shop and get them to mix me up a tin. I was hoping to use one of those touch up pens. Does anyone know where else i could source the paint? It's 2R or continental silver.
Thanks Stuart

supercheap, repco... do what i do with my maxima... i know it sounds dodgy but i use nail polish to touch up stone chips, there is a MASSIVE variety of colours and you can get the exact match for $4.50 LOL comes with a pretty good brush aswell and its easy to fill in stonechips with it as its a little bit thick

I am in NZ, had a son who managed to scratch my car with his  :'( :'(

Went to Hyundai and was told same story no touch up paint. The dealer directed me to who they use. I was supplied touch up paint which if my car was white was near enough black i.e. nothing like it. Went to a local painter and was supplied with a much closer match though it is still not the same but near enough if I choose not to look to closely.

I tried Superthief but they didn't have anything. I'll try Repco tomorrow.

Jeepers  He scratched your car and you disowned him (Blimey, you Kiwi's are tough)

Brew69,

I also had to get mine mixed by a local panel beaters (only an average match )

Someone might make a pen for the more popular colours now - the i30 is a lot more common than mid 2008 when I was chasing a match...

IMHO it should not be too much asked from a car manufacturer to supply a car with a small colour matched "touch up" pen.

Or at least have them available at dealers.

In our local Finnish conditions (sanded/salted roads 2/3 of the year, almost all cars run on studded tires) hits on the car front are unavoidable, sooner or later someone in front of you loses one stud wich goes like SNAP! on the front of your car.
Dent in the paint if you are lucky, split windscreen if you are not...

Even the sand trown up by others steadily eat the front paintwork, small pinholes in the paint everywhere, a touch up pen is really handy, or would be if Hyundai dealers had them...

Though I have to say that it might not be that easy nowadays, the water based paint used by the factory is not suitable for home use, so they'd have to specially make the repair paint. And probably in the world of cost-cutting that just is too much :(

Ask the dealer to source one from Korea.

You can't be the only one in the whole of Oz to have requested a touch up pen/paint!!!!!

My dealer, UK, got one in a week when I asked.

THESE people ship worldwide but seem exspensive.

Or you could email them at:  care(at)paints4u.com  for shipping cost.

Funny thing happened today. A got a phone call from the Stillwell group from whom i purchased the car from. It was a to ask me if i was happy with the salesman/dealer where i purchased the car from and also any problems with the car etc.... I asked about touch up paint not being available. She made some inquiries and called me back with an address for their own paint shop. It cost me $20 and they even did the touch up for me and gave me the bottle to take home.
Good result i would have to say  :D

Heh, the first day my dad drove my car he reversed it into a fence, resulting in a deep chip, almost as you describe. He went immediately down to the dealership and they gave him a touch up pen.

Since then, he has NEVER driven my car!

Unlucky Stuart

You may be surprised how many different "blacks" there are. Same with "white".

For some perversed reason it seems to be impossible for car makers to limit themselves to pure black and white...

Yes but the Stone Black Mica is far from black when the sun is shinning on it. My dealer sprayed a new front bumper after damaging the original in their workshop.

They did repray it again and the end result was far better. I have now changed it under the Hyundai Happy Returns Scheme for another i30, so someone else has that car now
