I have a cw slx  and have replaced the convex drivers mirror glass with flat glass. But what is annoying me at the moment(and I guess that if this is all I can complain about, I'm doing pretty well) is that I dont think the mirrors are set back into their housings far enough. Or, that the overhang on top of the mirror comes out enough. Either way  when it rains/showers etc they get wet too easily and hinder the rear view. And the rear spoiler also lets too much rain onto the back glass...I have to keep using the wiper. Good heavens, it might wear out more quickly..maybe we should see if we can get little wipers for the mirrors as an accessory???

That's an interesting conversion. I can see why you might do it, but is it legal?

I'm pretty used to them now as they help minimize blind spots.

I actually contacted both the racq(insurers) and dept of transport and both advised that there was nothing stopping me doing it. It was done at the request of SWMBO as she said she nearly drove into someone on a couple of  occassions. She is also the major driver around town. I must admit I prefer my little mazda 2 box around town. Easy to see out of and park anywhere.

So, where did you get the replacement glass and how much did it cost. Did you fit them yourself?
I ask because my sister in law has just bought a new Accent (see separate topic) and one of the difficulties she's having is adjusting to the mirrors (and the power steering and the remote door locking and the radio controls and the remote mirror adjustments etc etc :( )
She loves the car but has come out of a 1989 Suzuki Sierra soft top.

The wife (Member TrishCW) took a while to get used to the convex mirrors but they have never really worried me.. Be interesting to see what normal glass rear view mirrors are like now (it has been a while for me..)

Good idea to swap them ausi30 if they worried you.. hadn't noticed the other issue either

Surferdude,
I got the replacement done by "Mirrors 4 cars" and it cost A$70 for him to come to our place and do it. took about 1/2 hour. He is from the Gold Coast and travels, but I have since noticed others doing this in various ads on cars guide etc.  Got to say that the replacement is not up to the quality of the Hyundai glass tho and it is not heated. Not that I have used that facility yet.

Did that to another car I had and will be doing it to the i30. Any good windscreen replacement place can do it.

That would be no good in Tassie.. That mirror defrost function is handy down here if you park outside at night
