My 1st posting, so apologies if not done correctly.
Have recently bought 2011 i30 and have done 700 mls so far. Quite often finding difficulty in engaging 1st gear after having come to a halt at junction. If I depress clutch again or alternatively move gear stick back into 2nd and then fully forward into 1st, it engages OK. Dealership can find nothing wrong. Anyone else had this annoying problem?

Hi there

My gear change is now exactly the same as yours - as if a barrier exists trying to select first (even more so when cold).

It was great until I had my 5 year service last Feb - the dealership disclaimed doing anything to the gears, linkages etc, but they sure did something (I'm guessing they tightened the cables).

It's slowly getting back to normal now, however, so I'm not bothered too much.

Just give it time and it'll all loosen up, until you get it serviced and they tighten it all up again

Welcome aboard :D

Welcome Scotia31.. It appears you are in Great Britain so have a Czech built car.. This is interesting because the MY11 build cars from the Korean factory have a brilliant gearchange in all gears ( My wife's 5 speed CW certainly does anyway) Our previous 2008 build CRDi model was notchy in the lower gears but did improve in time (as Shambles has stated)  :goodjob:

I had the same problem when I had my Accent.

It's to do with the cable system they use for gear change.

Take it back to the dealer as they should be able to adjust the cable tension.

I have 2009 crdi i30 korean made and I am having trouble with first and second gear especially cold weather. My car is 69.000 km and clutch is doing pretty good.
You told about some cable issues. Did your dealers made specific procedure for this cable issue?
I am asking because I visited service about this and they told its is normal in cold weather. this doesn't make any sense.

I've always found second gear can at times be a bit notchy but other than that the gear change is smooth and nice to use.

Actually, situation is not big problem for me but if any thing wrong with 2. gear synchromesh that won't be good.
But you are right the others are nice and direct.
