I went to open the driver's door from the inside yesterday as I've done thousands of times before and felt something rather sharp.
The "chrome look" coating has started to lift and it sliced the end of my finger open - blood everywhere, wasn't happy 
Has anyone else had this happen?
I'm opening the door very carefully now. I wonder if that would be a warranty fix to replace it (the handle that is, not my finger)?

Had the same problem with both front door handles and auto trans gear selector.

They can give you a nasty cut!

Live In Qld Aus and it gets hot here. Suspect the heat is degrading the glue used to stick the "fake chrome" to the plastic handles.
Replaced under warranty by dealer without hassle.

You might be right ..I think it may have been after a really hot spell down here that our first i30 developed this fault. (I hadn't thought of that until you pointed it out)

I'm actually off to the Hyundai dealer right now. I have the engine warning light on in my i30 and I don't know why. Car seems to be running ok???
On holidays in NSW so not real convenient. Hope the can fix it quickly for me....

ours has had all the inner door handles replaced, the drivers side twice, and the gear stick knob

No doubt you have checked the oil level.. Maybe water in your fuel filter or something (hope it's an easy fix)

Well, thanks to Booths Motor Group at Tuggerah on NSW Central Coast, the engine warning light in my i30 is now off. Pat of me would have been happier if they'd actually found something wrong. They said everything is working as it should be and they think is was some sort of communications fault between the gearbox and the engine. They reset the fault and it's gone away.
Hmmmm........ Might have been more believable if they just told me it was The Flux Capacitor ;-)
Anyway, very good of them to fit me in without notice, though.
Will keep an eye on it and hopefully there's no repeat on the return leg of our trip.

That's good ...the flux capacitor is extra heavy duty in the i30 CRDi

Plus the Hyundai flux capacitors are now made by Hyundai themselves following intensive R&D by Hyundai/Kia, so they should all be trouble-free now.
