Update:

Renewal came today and it doesn't mention about increased excess if I don't use their approved repairers.

It does stipulate that a loan car WILL ONLY be provided if I use approved repairers.

Excess on replacement glasss the same and NO excess on repairs.

In fact the only thing changed from last year is an increase in premium of approx 75 p per week.

OK did an online quote with current insurers and got the premium down by £60.

Rang them and they could reduced but only by 50% i.e.£30.

Explained that my online was £60  so the chap did a "new" quote and guess what .  Yes £60 cheaper.

Asked him to quote by taking son off policy and it would reduce by 54p!!!! So he has been left on.

So old policy will expire and will not be renewed.
New policy start from 1 minute after old policy expires.

I have never understood why an insurance company can quote a new customer cheaper than an existing for the same thing.  Loyalty means sod all to them, Lester becomes a "new" customer with the same company for the same thing and saves himself £60, what is that all about  :disapp: :disapp:

ps I'm staying with the same company because on the comparison sites the next cheapest was nearly £150 more than renewal so based on what I've paid = £210 more.

It was explained that I get the "web" discount rate.

I do the same when my breakdown and house cover comes up for renewal.
Check out web prices then phone and see what they can offer.

Last year I renewed house cover via net (save over £100 for same cover) with same company and this was on the advice of the customer sales rep!!!!! as she was prevented from accessing "new" sales system to give same deal...

My online quote from the Pru is £50 more than the renewal - that's probably because of an accident nearly two years ago now and I had protected NCD. ?

My home insurance is always cheaper on the Co-op website. When I've rung them up in the past they always say - we can't match that, you maight as well buy on-line - so I do.

Mysterious things these insurance companies.

Is this "new" price /web price cheaper than renewal prevalent world wide?

Yeah. We're getting that here, too.
But RACQ will tell you how much face to face and you just go home and pay by BPay.
I suspect it's a mid to long range plan to cut the number of their shop front employees.

Sort of off topic (unusual for me)  :-[ I reckon it is shocking how companies almost blackmail their staff into making themselves redundant..

It started right back when I was in banking and they made us try and get people to swap to using ATM cards to reduce the number of tellers required (It didn't take Einstein to work out we were going to eventually do ourselves out of a job)  :disapp:
