Hi Dan,
Let me say firstly, I appreciate the hard work you are putting into this meet, and as a result, i believe it will be a huge success.
From my end, I am happy to go with your recommendation.
Dan I am in total agreement with the teapot... You have put a terrific amount of effort into this so I'm more than happy to go with your recommendations.

awwwwwwwww stop it!!!!!!!!!! You're making me blush!!!!!!

Thanks guys.

I don't think I mentioned before but wrt payment for the ZZR tickets, you can all pay individually as long as we all go in as a group.

We now have 13 people and 8 cars. I'd really like to break the 10 car mark, and have more than 20 people (not just for the discount at ZZR but to just enjoy the day in general)

Other than that, no further news, hopefully the weather will be good and no bushfires get started............

Regards

Daniel

Unlucky G14

Not to worry.

Is there anybody else still interested in going who hasn't contacted me? We're back down to 7 cars and 11 people, meaning the chances of the discount are looking slim, I might be bringing family members (up to 3) but none have confirmed yet.

Regards

Daniel

Hi all.

Hasn't been much happening here. (Festive season to blame?) There were only 4 votes for the poll.

This isn't definite, I will post definite timings later.

I think we'll have a 9 o'clock meet for 0930 departure from Panthers.

We'll catch the 1140 railmotor at ZZR, come back on the steam train which finishes it's journey at 1220-30ish. After this we'll have lunch at ZZR. Depending on timing and/or personal preference head into Lithgow, otherwise continue back to Panthers.

I think it will be more than likely (at this point in time) that we will go up and down Bells, as GWH is just going to be to much trouble with the roadworks (and Sundays are not very good for that road)

I haven't got any other news at this point and no more polls at this point in time.

Can people please get details to me in the next week if you would like to come. Currently we have 7 cars 11 people, to get the discount at ZZR we need 20. I need all details to me by NYE.

Please contact me via PM with Subject heading ZZR. Please include how many people will be coming i.e. 1 adult 1 child 1 infant, 2 adults, etc etc.

Regards

Daniel

Looks like I'm not going to be able to make it guys.
Got a trip I'll need to do with the family that weekend.

Thats why I hadn't sent you a PM Dan, there was some speculation of a trip, but its only cropped up again over chrissie.
Sorry guys.

Cam

Not a problem mate. Family comes first. But are you sure your family trip couldn't be a trip around the Blue Mountains?

Personally I wouldn't mind if your family came not in an i30, because this trip is meant to be about (and getting to know) the people who drive the car and visit this forum just as much as it is about the car itself.

That and the fact we need 9 more people if we would like to get the ZZR discount.

I'm starting to think we might need to postpone the trip...........  :'( :'( :'(

I'll put a poll up and if there's a big enough majority we'll push it back to a later date. But I do understand that we will never be able to cater for everybody..........

Daniel

Hi Dan,

It would be a pity to postpone the trip but if it means getting a better turn out, than it may be a viable option.
Just one thought, if we scheduled for after school holidays, it would be likely quieter on the roads and less busy at the  ZZ railway also.
I am happy with what ever is decided.

Well currently we are still at 7 cars and 11 people, whilst this won't get us the discount it will still be a great turnout, I've only brought up the possibility of postponement due to 2 cancellations so far. I'm starting to get worried this might get worse the closer we get to the date.

11Jan09 is the last day of my holidays so it's a great way to end them, getting down to the Blue Mountains on any old weekend isn't quite as easy for me.

At this point I'm still very happy to go ahead with it but thought it might be worth asking the group their opinions on the matter. As I really don't want to see this flop.

Daniel

I don't really care about the discount, it really isn't that much cost for the ZZR anyway, it's about a fun day out - 7 cars is good enough for me. I'm sure we'll have a good day.

Yea I think we'll still roll with it, just a bit unfortunate we couldn't get the 20.  :'(

On or about the 04Jan I'll post final information/instructions etc etc so as to leave a week for people to see whats happening and raise any issues.

Other than that I wish everyone a Happy New Year as I won't be on until the 2nd at the earliest.

Daniel

Hey all

Here are a few things to note for the trip.

We will meet at the Information centre in the Northern Carpark area of Penrith Panthers at 9am for a 9:30 departure. There is a KFC, Macca's and Krispy Kreme doughnuts there for anyone with the munchies.

I've made a D and we will be travelling both up and down the Bells Line. Roadworks and traffic on GWH will just spoil things. Unfortunately because of F*&%@#t drivers the speed limit has been reduced to 80km/h most of the way now. But GWH is the same anyway.

We will catch the 1140 Diesel Railmotor at ZZR and returning on the steam train to the start point at around 1220-30, at which point we'll fire up the BBQ (maybe crack a tinny for those who can) and have a chinwag.

I will need a gold coin donation from everyone for the Gas bottle. Food, drinks and cutlery are BYO. I'll bring Tomato and BBQ sauce (if anyone wants anything fancier it's BYO) paper/plastic plates, cups and serviettes.

After lunch, due to time constraints on some members I'll leave it to the group to decide what we would like to do. We may continue further, split into two groups (1 continuing the other returning to Panthers) or all return to Panthers.

Encountar has proposed going into Lithgow, stopping at a pub and visiting the Lithgow Small arms factory and Museum, the factory continues low rate production of the F88 Austeyr assault rifle (used by all arms of the Australian Defence Force) today. The museum contains a large number of hand guns, sub machine guns, assault rifles and machine guns. There is a small fee for entry, but I do not know exactly how much.

It is my preference that all cars stay together to try and prevent anyone getting lost. But if need be, we will order the convoy appropriately to reflect each persons driving habits, i.e. those who have little to no regard for the law (hopefully there aren't any) at the front, then those who do the speed limit regardless of the situation (i.e. don't brake for corners) then those who follow speed limits but prefer a more gentler drive, then the dawdlers.........

I ask that everyone try and have at least 300km displaying on their DTE's prior to the meet, I don't think the group will be happy if we all have to stop because one person needs to fill up.

If anyone has CB radios this might also help with comms during the trip, i.e. if someone does need to fill up, has a problem, would like to ask a question, general chit chat etc etc, then please feel welcome to bring them. I have 2 and are happy to lend one to somebody (If the front person doesn't have one they will get it, I'll be at the rear to make sure no one gets left behind and to keep an eye on things). But please do not race out and get one if you don't have one. It is not mandatory.

Dependant on timing we will stop for a cuppa outside Richmond RAAF base on the way back, there is a playground there (But so far I only have 1 confirmed child 1 infant). From there we will return to Penrith Panthers completing the trip.

Finally if people are willing to trust me can they please PM me their mobile numbers and network operator so I can contact you if there are any last minute changes and/or if you're running late so I can call you on the day. I'll reply to your PM with my number so you can recognise it. If you have more than 1 phone and one is with Telstra I would prefer that number as I get free calls to Telstra mobiles.

My sleep deprived brain can't think of anything else. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask on this thread or by PM. I'll try and get on daily and check.

Lastly please try and make some sort of sacrifice to the weather gods in the next week!!!

Here's to a good meet!!!

Regards

Daniel

ill bring a loaf of bread and a dozen or so snags.
I have a cb radio somewhere, just need to find it.
I'm looking forward to the trip, its not that much of a drive for me but will be good to meet a few of you lot :D

I'm up for multiple stops for coffee along the way, the apple bar has good coffee, just probably not enough parking for everyone. I'm sure after ZZR and lunch we can decide  to continue onwards ot the small arms factory or to head back, ill double check some prices but last i heard it was below $5 pp and kids free

YOU hope? I'll be chasing you all in my loan car if I don't.

Encountar, there's nothing stopping you from driving to meet the Canberra boys and escorting them back to Penrith :P

Anybody got any issues?

Yeah, do I tune for power, or economy?

Shall I bring the Internet, or not?

What music shall I load onto the 500GB HD?

Sports exhaust, or standard?

Questions questions questions!

Hey guys

Been keeping an eye on the weather and went for a drive up to Zig Zag today. It was a very crisp 9C outside with a bit of wind.

Whilst current forecasts do say low 20's, my recommendation is to bring some warm clothing. Forecast also state chance of late showers/thunderstorms.

We have an undercover area to cook and eat in at ZZR but it will still be exposed to wind.

Another reminder that it's a 9o'clock meet for 930 departure from the information centre in the Northern carpark of Panthers.

Make sure you charge your camera (and CB's if you have them) batteries tomorrow night (and bring them with you!!!)

Please try and ensure you have at least 300km on your DTE's.

Other than that let's hope the weather is good!

Cya Sunday!!!

Regards

Daniel
