- had to stay at Almaty airport for 10 hours between the flights (arrived at 23:00 and departed at 9:00)
+ I was a master of 3 seats in my row on the flight back home, so I could lie down and stretch my legs 
+ two weeks more and I am on vacation (on 1 November I will set off for Hanoi)

- I'm feeling a little nervous about our trip. I am not exactly a seasoned traveller, and I think this part of the world will be a fair way outside my comfort zone.

Why don't you want to travel through Vietnam, for there are some interesting sites there for sure, Phu Quoc island is relatevely close to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon as you call it); Da Nang, Nha Trang etc

We don't really have enough time to see Vietnam and Cambodia. I had to choose and I decided I wanted to see Siem Reap most of all.  We are doing a tour, so we had to take what was on offer.

- working today at the local university; we have an HP project in which we need to install HBA cards into their servers, and Sunday is the only day available due to the campus clearing out over weekends.
+ Hippo is going in for her first service since I bought her in June, and I am quite astonished that I racked up 15K km in such a short time, but that means I am enjoying the car immensely
-+ we had a 'potjie' at my managers' house last night, which is basically a cast iron pot over a wood fire that you slow cook meat and veggies in for around 5 hours. We made warthog shank in a red wine sauce with lots of garlic and bacon to prevent dryness, and it was delicious! We only ended up eating at close to midnight though, hence the '-'.

Eew no, but I have heard it tastes just like chicken

I was in charge of the starters though, so I took Champignon mushrooms, removed the stalks and filled it with a garlic butter and cheese filling and decorated it with basil and origanum which we also roasted over the coals.
