Can anyone tell me if there is a water trap somewhere in the system for a diesel engine?  Have been talking to people who own diesel vehicles, and they say they have had to empty the water trap once a year due to some service stations can have condensation/water in the fuel (not on purpose though).

In a months time, I plan on driving from Wollongong to Broken Hill area (3,600km trip) and want to be prepared for anything that could go wrong - especially when there will be no phone reception most of the time.

Thanks

Hi h20melon - spooky username given your question about H2O :D

The fuel filter should trap any water that makes it up from the tank.

Here's one thread...

You can find more by putting the words "diesel water filter" (without quotes) in the search box ;)

Welcome to the club :goodjob:

When I had my diesel, 2007 year, the answers was a NO.

The garage had to remove the filter unit to empty the water that was there.

Thanks guys.

I've had a close look at the Fuel Filter and looks pretty easy to access.  Will the fuel hose come off with the fuel line removing/disconnecting tools as like http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Stanley-A-C-Fuel-Line-Disconnect-Set-7-Piece.aspx?pid=123376#Description ?  Hope so.

I use to service my old commodore and use these to disconnect the fuel filter from the hoses, and the i30 looks similar.

I feel better now that nothing drastic has to happen if I run out of fuel - a simple process.
