The rear wiper blade on my 2009.5 model year hatch has split (disappointingly soon in my opinion, the car is less than 30 months old and has only just clocked up 80,000 miles). Two car parts shops have told me that only Hyundai supply rear wiper blades for the i30 (it's a different matter entirely for the front, apparently). I would be interested to know if anyone has sourced and fitted a cheaper alternative for the rear.

Haven't had to change my rear wiper blade yet, but with the front wiper blades I'm very satisfied with the original Hyundai parts.

When I bought my car 15 months ago, 2. hand, I went to the Hy dealer to buy new blades for the windscreen. They charged me 48 GBP !  I was stunned, I didn't ask to buy the whole business. 

But, now 15 month and 31000 km's later the blades are still working fine, no noice and no stripes at all. 

I'm done with the cheap aftermarket sh*t.

Agree. My statement was only regarding wiper blades.

In my case the original front wipers were sh*t after about 2 months and had them replaced under warranty but they were sh*t too, so ended up replacing them with some silicone ones which have done the trick and 1 year on no problems.

My rear blade doesn't look all that different to any other one, although it's pretty short so I'd expect a problem if replacing the whole arm even though it looks like it would clip off and on just like other arms.
The insert is normal. Just buy any blade insert and cut to size.
At least in Oz.
We've discussed the fronts on here before. Some seem to have trouble early and others go forever. I actually replaced mine at about 18 months or so, with silicon blades but they were still working OK.
Having the rear chop out seems odd to me although I guess if you lived in an area with dirty rain and used it often. without activating the washer first, it'll deteriorate quickly.
If I lived in an industrial fallout area I'd be cleaning the blades with a damp rag and clean water regularly.

Thanks for your replies. Most days before driving I manually un-stick the wipers from the glass to reduce wear and tear caused by the first sweep and only use them when the glass is wet. The rear wiper is used very little, especially compared with the front ones. When I wash the windows I also clean the blades. I'm also considering just replacing the 300mm rubber insert rather than getting a whole new arm. It's on my 'things to do list' but quite near the bottom.

Yesterday I happened to be walking past a Hyundai dealer so I called in to enquire about rear wiper blades. They wanted to know the car's registration number before giving me the price. It's £19.98 (including vat).

I had them ask the same thing when I was looking for a blanking plate for the Santa Fe the other day.  They ask this to obtain the correct part number.  Apparently it is easier that way than trying to find it by model numbers etc.

Thay do it here too. Even Repco can do it. Not sure what they access but it works. If we provide a rego number we almost always get the right parts.
