im looking at using my familys i30 to drive down from brisbane to Port Maquarie (NSW) to pickup a cuore (small car) and tow it back up on a car trailer... I can see people have towed caravans and trailers here but would a 08 SLX auto i30 be okay to tow a 700kg cuore + trailer? I was planning on using my R31 but with older cars like mine the chassis is known to stretch and rather use a new cars hence using the familys i30 which also has a new towbar fitted (says its rated to 1200kg but that's 'recommended', should be okay to tow a 700kg car + trailer alright?)
^ yeah that's what I needBut yeah in general, are all car trailers really 800kg as they said they are? or are they more like ~ 400-700?
I will say you should expect around the 8,5 km/L anyway.
I'm predicting closer to 10 or 11 LPH sorry ..
Here Ya go PPL, after our trip to the Royal, around a 300 Kilometre trip, topped up before we left and filled up on return(next day actually as we arrived home late evening),the results from the cars trip computer was telling us on the way down to Perth, up hill and down dale, it was fluctuating between 6.5 to 11.2 litres per 100 K's that was sitting on the speed limits mostly 110 KPH, until we hit the metro area.On the way home, being dark I took it real easy, no more than 100 KPH, the trip computer never went over 9.1 L/100K, but the proof was in the refill at the end of the trip and the Kilometres we did, it averaged out over the whole trip of 9.4 Ltrs per 100 kilometres, so I was pretty impressed, total trailer weight with everything, dog's and all was smack on 1000kgs.Now even though I was truely impressed with the towing ability of our little Bruce, the amount of power his little deisel engine had was impressive, once moving,I was a little disappointed he struggled a bit in taking off, when we were on a slight to mild incline, but that was the only problem we came across, towed well, handle surprisingly well and once we were on open roads you never really knew the trailer was there, other than the hatchback taillights lighting up the front of the trailer and the clearance lights on the guards, showing like orange spotlights in the dark in the mirrors. To say I was impressed would be an understatement, be nice to be able to get a tow bar on Cyril and do a comparison towing, but as I haven't got a spare $450 laying around that won't be happening for awhile, Cyril on averge driving between the two seems to have more power, but I have had the computer tweeked by a dealer after we had the power issues with him,he is also only a five speed compared to Bruce which is a six speed.
