It's quite interesting, we have both a York and a Beverley in the wheatbelt area of Western Australia, named after the English ones, but they are so, so different.

I regret not going back over the years but I always seemed so busy raising a family that it just didn't seem possible. It wasn't at the top of the priority list, but I would like to go back in the next few years to have a look and maybe take at least one of my girls with me.

I joined in July 2008 and didn't become an owner until April 2009 and the help and information I received in the meantime was invaluable, so please feel free to be a part of the family. :)

The hot weather is a given. You either like it or you don't.
As far as crime goes, we're probably no different than any other major capital city of Australia, although I do think that the bleeding hearts of this nation have a lot to answer for in allowing the status quo to continue, or even worsen.  :fum:
It is still a nice place though.
Take a look at the i30 gallery at https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;pic=84 or https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;pic=9 to see what a typical day in paradise looks like.  :D

Hi Ruby - freeasabird

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new car..

Thanks for the welcome.   I see you tow a caravan.  I've used my 2L Skoda Octavia for towing a caravan but wondered if the i30 was a big enough engine or heavy enough although my caravan is smaller thank yours.  Be pleased to hear your views.

Hi Ruby

Finally another caravanner..

I use the i30 to tow the caravan from Denmark to Croatia every summerholiday. As both the kids are now 17 years old we are 4 adults in the car and the trunk full, the car weighs about 1800 kg and the caravan 1400 kg.
3200 kg in total. We can easily do 95 on the motorway and at the inclines in the mountains in Germany, Austria and Slovenia it's 4th gear @ 2500 revs up the hills, doing 85 km/h.

We can do the 3400 km trip with an average fuel consumption around 9,4 L/100 km (10,6 km/L)

If your Skoda Octavia is a 2,0 Petrol you will be pleasantly surprised, but if it is a 2,0 TDI Diesel, you will find the Octavia a better towcar with the stronger 140 HP/320 Nm engine.

Ruby,  you mustn't worry about being from Yorkshire, it's not your fault that your parents failed to get into Lancashire and give you a sound heritage.

Your gonna love your car Ruby, I have the petrol so I am not qualified to comment in the engine and oily bits, but the inside is the same I ya gets lots of kit for the money.

You'll enjoy being a club member as well, either the other members will answer any/all questions you have, or, us the search facility which will answer almost any question or query you may have ...

Welcome aboard

Asa

Or they will make some joke about your situation or your car  :whistler: (But being a POM I'm sure you have a sense of humour .. I think it is because you need one over there to cope with the weather ) :snigger:

Pleased to hear about your towing experience, thanks.   I was going to get rid of the caravan but may get a towbar for the new car instead.  My Skoda is a petrol so good to hear you say I will be pleasantly surprised with the i30 diesel.

Thanks for the welcome Asa....even though you believe the rose I wear is the wrong colour.  :p   Actually I had (for a bit of fun) a past life regression and experienced life 900 years ago living in the Forest of Bowland    ;)   So maybe a bit of hope for me yet  :)
