Bush Fire
February 25, 2013, 07:50:41
This is in our suburb so I may have to leave tonight.
At the moment we are OK as the wind is blowing away from us, but if it changes it could be a different story.
Hopefully they will bring it under control soon.
I can hear the helitacks flying back & forth and sirens and fire trucks everywhere.
Fingers crossed.

How far from you?
Hope all is well and the fire keeps its distance and leaves you safe from the fire...

No, most are unlicensed and not ready to drive.
It's a risk living here every summer.
Another reason I'm thinking of moving down south.

The wind is blowing away from our house and the helitacks seem to be getting a bit further away.
When it first started there was a danger but I'm reasonably confident now that it's moving away from us.
As long as they can get it under control soon it will be OK.

All quiet now so I'm presuming it's under control.

It seems unreal considering on the other side of the country we have our heavy rain and flooding. What a messed up place

I drove past this morning and they still had the bush fire brigade command post set up in Glen Forrest and I heard on the radio that they had the fire under control at present but were monitoring it for further outbreaks due to the temperatures and wind, but thankfully there have been no further outbreaks today.
It is quite amazing considering we have a severe cyclone in the north-west of the state plus other extreme weather patterns including floods in other parts of Australia.

Yes, the CFS chaps here have had occasions where the fire burned for more than a week underground, in tree roots and flares up again. It's harder than you think to extinguish a bushfire completely.
Do they know the cause yet

I haven't hear what the cause was.
It started mid afternoon but not sure how.
