Lets just pretend for a minute that Hyundai never made the i30. The world would obviously be a lesser place, and this site would not exist :'(
What however, do you think you would be driving today?
I would in all likely hood be still driving my previous car, a 2005 3.3L Hyundai sonata elite.
If I still decided to downsize as I did 12 months ago, I would most likely have opted for one of two cars. The First of which would of been the Mazda 3 SP23. Love the look of the car even if it has become a bit dated.
The other more likely candidate would be the Ford Focus. I wouldn't go for one of the budget models as these are made in South Africa and fall apart in no time. If the budget would stretch, the XR5 turbo looks Hot, and goes like a rocket I am told. More likely, I would have got the TDi model.

I'm not having any regrets mind you, Love my little grey teapot.

Well, then I would not have a car ... Cuz I have won mine :)

But if I would buy one, then it would be the Ford Focus to ;)

I guess I would either be in a Focus, Mazda 3 or Subaru Impreza.

Don't think any of them would be as much overall enjoyment to own as the i30 though!

I'd still be driving my Nissan Pulsar and holding out for the redesigned Mazda 3 in diesel format. That thing has nearly the same torque as the MPS but with nearly half the fuel consumption!!! Not as good as the i30 though.........

Little known fact is the Diesel 3 does use the same gearbox as the 3 MPS not the gearbox of the other petrol 3 models.

Regards

Daniel

Ditto Daniel, I don't know anything about the new Mazda3, but decided not to look into it when I fell in love with the i30. I preferred the i30 to the M3 when I was comparing so I stopped there. Had no i30 been available I think it would have been my 2nd choice, but I would have waited to see the new one. Then again, Chelsea doesn't like the look of the back of the current M3s anyway.

I tested the Focus Diesel and the Mazda 3 Diesel and they both stalled, the focus was set up for left hand drive and when i went to turn i was turning on the winscreen wippers. i have owner german cars in the past and hate that feature!
i was going to test the Peugot or a Megane Sport F1. then saw the write up on the i30 CRDi had about four test drives. was a long time thinking about it. but am happy. looked at Golf TDI but owned one new VW and am twice shy.
cheers

I probably would have got a Astra CDX wagon (although not now as they are only available as an Auto) or a Mazda 6 diesel wagon (although not sure they make them now?)

Bloody good choice there Shambles!

I sort of fell into the i30, as my budget wouldn't stretch to the Pug 207 or Citroen C4 that I was looking at - but I dont regret it! If the i30 hadnt been around, I would have ended up in a Toyota Yaris or Mazda 2 I think.

I've driven the 407, its nothing special.
The i30 would be quicker off the line and up top in my opinion. Its a nice enough car, but not worth the price imho.

If the i30 wasn't out, I probably would have looked at the Mazda 3 petrol.
I drove the Focus TDI which went well enough, but its just not finished well. I did look at the Golf but was too expensive at the time.

I like the older Impreza's, they went really well and looked nice but the newer hatches are butt ugly!

I probably would have bought the mazda 2 or the swift. These were the cars we were looking at before I forced 'her' to get into the i30. :P

The new Subaru Impreza but I cannot afford it. I like the specs more, seriously, and friends who owned Subarus are always extremely happy. HOwever, I think the beige interior will make me puke. Just looking at it is quite nauseating... so maybe not the Subaru...

Ahm.. I don't really know now... Mazda 2?

They do make them.. and they are nice but...I couldn't justify over $20,000 changeover...

Although I would be up for 10,000+ to upgrade to a new i30 Diesel Wagon next year  :'( anyway...
