Hello everyone I wanted to share with you my phone mount I have installed in my car. The mount is for my phone which is a galaxy S2 and is a perfect fit for it, I use my phone as a gps now ever since my tom tom died and works great.   :happydance:

The mount sits up under the cubby hole lid so that it can be closed when not in use and the hole can still be used to store stuff. Whole thing cost about $10 an took me probably a bit over an hour to make.

Okay so I started of with a phone mount exactly like this I bough off ebay for about $5

First thing I did was sawed off the tab on top of the mount nice and flush. Then using some quicksteel (which is the best stuff ever) I attached 2 small hinges to the mount that I got from bunnings for a few dollars.

I then realised that I needed to make room for the hole in the top of the lid (where the latch clips into) so I cut more of the mount out

I then spray painted the hinges black to make them more discrete

Then attached some small round magnets ($2 off ebay) with quicksteel to the back of the mount. I used 2 magnets on top of each other on the mount and 1 on the top of the lid to make it level. Note the groves I made in the bottom of the mount, this is the part that rests on the edge of cubby hole

I used screws to attach the mount to the lid so that it could be easily removed if needed. I didn't pre drill any holes as the screws were way to tiny, just pushed them in with a lot of pressure until I could start to screw them. You can also see the grove on the bottom of the mount

then finally I lined up and attached some magnets on the lid to the ones on the mount

and then just put the cubby hole back into the car and all done!

here is the final result

The lid is still light enough that it lifts up by itself and once my phone is in there is enough weight to keep in down. I have been driving around with the phone in and it has never slipped out of the groves. I can even touch the phone without it moving so its really good. Originally I wanted to have magnets on the bottom for it to stick to, but there was no good mounting points but this works great anyway so there was no need.

Well that's it thanks for reading I hope you like it. This was my first mod it did to my new car and also my first ever diy write up. I have plenty more mods I want to do to my awesome car  :goodjob2:
