Today was a beautiful winter's day in Southern Tasmania, so Mrs FatBoy and I decided to take the FatKids on a trip.

Here is where we went.

His name isn't mentioned at Port Arthur, but his victims have had the following erected in their memory.

We had a lovely day, started off with a 20 minute harbour cruise, and then spent a couple of hours wandering around the grounds.  We finished the day with lunch at the Dunalley Hotel (the area was devastated by recent bush fires, and we wanted to help the local economy).

We purchased a "Ticket of Leave" for an extra $12 for the family, which allows us to return as many times as we like in the next two years.

Is it Tasmania?  :undecided: :undecided:

Can't you tell by the sunshine?  (After all, Hobart is Australia's second driest capital city - after Adelaide)

It's well worth the visit, Dazz.  I hadn't been there since 2002.

Yep Adelaide and Hobart are the two driest Australian capital cities.  Sydney has twice as much rain as Melbourne.  Hobart has the most rainy days (yet it is the second driest, there are not many thunderstorms for the large downpours).

Here is some information:

Okay.

Perth has the highest concentration of whinging Poms of any Australian capital city.

Is that better?

No.
But we have a city that has lots of rain in winter and LOTS of sunshine in summer.  :D
Unlike Hobart and Adelaide that like to pretend.

It's funny how some people assume that "cool" weather means "wet".  Both Hobart and Canberra are contrary to that theory.

BTW, Tasmania is not cold.  Canada is cold.

It gets too hot in Perth.
And it gets too cold.
It also gets very dry.
And it gets very wet.
But I have trouble with the suggestion that Hobart and Adelaide are the driest capital cities in Australia.
Maybe they are, but I haven't been shown anything yet to convince me.  ;)

Does this convince you, Dave?

You are thinking like an Englishman, relating temperature to rainfall.  Would it surprise you that Darwin was the wettest city, but also recorded the lowest ever recorded maximum temperature?

That puts Alice Springs as the driest and Adelaide second.
Sorry, but Hobart isn't in the top two.  :D

I know that.

But why put up a table that includes non-capital cities?

C'mon Dave, you wanted proof that Adelaide and Hobart were the two driest Australian capital cities.  I provided proof via two different websites.  The wettest place in Australia is Tully, in Queensland.  Does that mean that the information on Darwin isn't valid?

That puts Alice Springs as the driest and Adelaide second.
