Hi All,

Just brought the car to the dealership today for its 1500km service (but actually did over 1800kms  )

i was just a bit surprised that when i asked the advisor what services have been done and she said it was just all about checks and it doesnt involve an oil change. 

However back in my home country the first 1000km (paid) or so service for a brandnew hyundai involves an oil change.   

I've referred to the service passport and it apparently shows no oil change for complimentary service but is it the standard dealer service schedule for Hyundais here in Oz(no oil change until 15000kms or optional 7500kms)?

What could be the reason for this? (aside from the fact that mine is complimentary and the other is "paid"  )

Pretty sure the UK i30s don't even get checked at the 1000 mile interval.

Both ours,the older FD's both had oil and filter change at 1000k's,both complimentary services,one bought in march 2011 the other in August 2011

They hand over the keys and say "See you in 20,000 miles time".

Strange how things like this differ between the various markets

I was told mine was a general fluid check and a tightening of nuts and bolts, just to cover its first period of shake, rattle and roll ... I said shake, rattle and roll ... Uh Huh ... Thank you very much!

You were lucky Rick.
The 1500 IS normally just a check.
There's really no need to change the oil (IMHO).

IIRC the Holden had an oil change at 500 miles. Some sort of run in oil originally loaded into the engine at manufacture. given that there is always a chance of swarf or other deposits from manufacturing, I'd be happy for an early oil and filter change, actually.

This is actually what i have in mind... given that in other parts of the world, Hyundai has an oil change schedule for about 1000kms.  are those units made from a separate production line in the Korean factory?     or is it just a way to squeeze out some more profit from particular markets?

I honestly don't know but I'm positive I didn't have a scheduled oil change on my last Falcon (2003) or the Commodore before that (1995) in the first thousand klms or so.

Last new Holden I bought was in 1981, so I forget too. But I remember the 500 mile notice placed on my father's HD 1965, there was a service not long after.

Must have been, but in both my service books clearly states initial service to be done at 1000 K's(as to keep your warranty),they also informed me that,that on the optional services(especially the deisels)to at least change the oil and oil filter,even if you are to do it yourself,that was quote from three different dealers,all other services to be done not neseccarly by HYundai but an accredited mechanic or service centre,like someone said,interesting how things are different from one market to another

My 1990 Holden Barina had an oil and filter change at 1000k if I remember correctly...
Actually, come to think of it, I did it myself!
Positive it was part of the scheduled 1000k service though.....

our 2i30s had oil and filter changed at 1000kms,the labour was free, but the parts i payed for.

For those in Victoria doing DIY oil changes, where do you guys dispose the used oil? does it cost anything?

I don't do mine any more but I do know you can dispose of used oil at the local Rubbish Transfer Station for free....

I strain it and use it on my electric chainsaw (which I hate using). Flicks off the blade, as it is a bit thin, but works ok.

I'm an enviromental vandal,I use most of mine in a waste oil shed heater and like Rusty said you can get rid of it at a rubbish transfer station,which has facility for disposal of used oils,plus if you contact any oil recycling plant they will take it for nix,but you have to take it too them if it is under two hundred litres.

I'm guessing he has a shed in there with a heater in there and oil in there which is waste - but it isn't right because he's using it in his waste oil shed heater, which is used wrongly because it's no longer waste oil.

Never heard of one but been checking the web, nothing there that would suit my small shed and oil. Thought there might be a slow combustion type, but most seem to be more like furnaces. Not quite what I'm after.

if your talking garden shed,no even the one I have packed away in my shed,would be too big it's too danged big for my shed(50' x 20') mine was bought but you can get plans for mother earth waste motor oil burners on the net,you could scale them down,they are so simple to make,simplicity at its best

Yes, I've been looking there. I have an old LPG tank that someone fitted out as a wood burner. It's pretty good but I don't like collecting oil and using it to make me comfortable, appeals to me.
