I wasn't a big fan of the man, however, that is a very young death in this day and age

The young ones was one of those shows I didn't know whether to love or hate... I do remember some laugh aloud bits to this day...

When these celebrities pass at our age or younger, it certainly makes you face your mortality...

Took anal and slapstick humour to a new height. The Young Ones and Bottom were both very funny, and would have cost next to nothing.

56 is very young, he had a very bad quad bike accident 15 or so years ago that nearly killed him, it is hard to know what time bombs are left in the body after such a trauma.

Such a shame and much to young to go so early, I used to watch the Young One's religiously every week and still have every episode recorded on VHS tape ( I just don't have a VHS player anymore )

Another thing they seemed to know was when a joke had run its course. No matter how popular the series, not like now where you keep punching out episodes until the ratings tell you it is time to quit....

Rik Mayall was happy and healthy in the hours before his death, according to his Comic Strip Presents colleague Peter Richardson, whose son was one of the last people to see the actor alive.

Peter, who directed Rik in a series of TV shows, said the 56-year-old was "such a star".

He told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme that his son saw him around half an hour before he died at his London home.

He said: "He was happily chatting away and it was very quick and we still don't quite know what happened but it was a seizure of some sort."

Rik Mayall heading for top of charts - video

 Rik Mayall could top the charts less than a week after his death after an online campaign by fans sent sales of his failed football song, Noble England, rocketing.

The track, which he recorded for the 2010 World Cup when it failed to chart, jumped 27 places overnight according to data from the Official Charts Company and is now just outside the top 10 at number 11.
