Hey guys

So I am getting a few 31mm festoon LED's to put in my trunk/boot, glovebox/cubbyhole and the interior dome light as well as the map light. I am having difficulty in removing the map light clear plastic covers though.

Is there a trick to getting them off? The rest I can get to easily :)

I did a search but I could not find anything fruitful.

Thanks!

You need to use  small flat screwdriver to push the outer edge toward the switch (opposite to the switch in the middle, not directly next to it). That will pop the cover out quite easily. When you fit it will just pop back in. The trick is to use a small enough screwdriver that fits in the gap without getting stuck there.

  • Sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
I think there is a good description of this in the owner's manual.

Hmmm. I used the thinnest most skinny screwdriver I had and it would not work. It kept on slipping and I was scared I would mark the clear plastic or the opaque plastic surround.

I'll leave it for another day when I am feeling a bit more adventurous. For now I will just do the dome light and the trunk and glove box lights :)

Awesome! Do you know what the lumens rating was? Or how many LED's per bulb they had?

The dome light is a brilliant white 6 by 6 SMD matrix with universal connection kit given as a gift. The boot light is a similar smaller matrix I bought in when I visited KL. They're available at http://www.facebook.com/supersave88 for a couple of ringgit each. :D

Just like the common eBay stuff. I ended up bringing a bagful of a mix of panel and festoon types back with me. The festoon types are 2 by 4 mini LEDs lined up on a circuit board inside a standard clear plastic festoon shape. :victory:

Thanks for the info! The ones I want to get are I think 4 SMD units and I am just a bit skeptical about the brightness of the units. They put out 76 lumens apparently and I should have them by next week or the week after. I was also considering getting a few on DX.com, but the last batch of items I ordered from them took almost two months to get here, and my patience would have worn thin long before that
