Hey guys

Just put my i30, diesel, 61 plate, 52,000 miles in to Hyundai this morning as i fear the clutch is slipping. After going out with their mechanic it proves to be correct. It slips in the high gears and cant achieve more than 75mph.

They are inspecting it as i type and its looking unlikely to be covered by warranty. quoted £600!! Is this a known problem in a relatively new car? I must add that most the miles are purely motorway.

Between breaking down last year with fuel filter problems, the radio conking out twice and now this I'm not enjoying my i30 experience.

Any advice from you guys would be great

Hi Graeme,

I haven't heard of this problem with the i30 diesel before, somebody may be able to correct me.  It's a shame that you have had the problems with your car, it sounds like it is a "Friday" car.  Hopefully somebody will be able to assist too.

Unless you drive around with your foot constantly resting on the clutch pedal, which would relieve some pressure and allow the pressure plate to slip the clutch and thereby wear it out very quickly.  I cannnot imagine how a clutch would wear out so quicky.

I would expect a MINIMUM of 60k and more likely 80/90 or even 100+k...

As you say, it is very unlikely to be covered on warranty as it is a consumable item   <sigh>

2 years 60k miles.

However, if they find something else may have caused this then fingers crossed.

Yes, but you have to use it for it to wear out.

Hi Graeme, I suppose they would still charge you something for the diagnostics if you could find a local mechanic who could do it cheaper (How old is a 61 plate car?)
