I had a run flat tyres on a Rover Metro some 20 years ago.

Had many a flat and given the state of our roads would never dream of running miles on one.

The only good thing I found about them was they didn't deflate instantly so you still had control over the car until you could pull over and change to the spare.

Do you have the moulding under the boot floor thereby lifting the floor up and removing the slight lip I have when the rear seats are down?

Finally got round to checking today - yes I have the plastic compartments under the boot floor, see pics on your separate thread.

Looking at Hemmi's picture I take it that he has a full size spare.

I have a similar spare rim, but recently discovered that the tyre on it is not the same size as the other Khumo Solus tyres sold as standard.  Whereas they are 195/65R15 the spare is a 185/65R15!!

I enquired with my Hyundai service agent about it, having thought they'd made a mistake, and requested a replacement.  My service manager made some enquiries and got back to me, stating that apparently all of the spare tyres fitted to the steel rims are narrower so that they fit in the under-floor boot space.  He said that's why they have a 80km/hr sticker on them.

It all sounds a bit dodgy to me, especially since one of my alloy wheels with the 195's fits into the space just fine.  I'm getting the 185 spare replaced with a 195 in any case.

I'd be interested to know whether any others have encountered this issue.

In Oz, we have been conditioned to expect 5*wheels the same.  Some manufacturers seem to understand and others just know that ultimately we will accept whatever we are given - even if we don't like it.

I think, that by whatever means we have, Hyundai dealers should be made to understand which is our preference, and from what I can gather, they do have an influence.

Lakes, as per my previous post in this thread I would be curious as to whether the tyre on your spare is a 195/65R15 (as with the 4 running wheels) or a 185/65R15 (13mm diameter difference).  I'm told by my service agent that Hyundai insist that all spare tyres they've supplied on delivery of new vehicles is this different size, except on the newest of I30's.  Insane if you ask me...

I don't think you'll have a problem with the SR or SLX spares being different size tyre to the other four...
