Wow, welcome back! We are on our 3rd i30 as per my signature... The tourer is my pick, couldn't justify a diesel unfortunately as the wife only does 7-8 k per year...

Another diesel CW/Tourer owner....Welcome.

Dazz, with that fuel guzzling Commodore, you'll be taking the Tourer out more!!

Oh and good to see the old school Ford whip their butts today  :whistler:

Not going to loose any sleep over it, but it was a Ford win, due to better team tactics and that is quite legitimate in racing.

Congrats to Ford fans.

We'll be back, next year.

Good news and welcome back.
What happened to the one you ordered in May 2008?

Well I never got to order one in 08 ... it was just before the GFC and Hyundai Aust was sticking it up to all buyers as they ran out of stock and I wasn't keen on paying $30k+ for the SLX (it was a manual too, but I had accessories like tow bar etc) ... I ended up with a showroom 2007 Maz 3 diesel (unbelievably cheaper than the i30 by a long shot) for my 4 year lease between 2008-12 ... a good overall experience, but I learnt a lot about what happens too when your diesel engine has the dreaded DPF ... yep 20k km into my Maz 3, the engine blew up after the engine oil overflowed into the intake manifold from excessive DPF-induced fuel dilution into the sump - long story, some of you here on the forum may know lots about DPF issues that affects VW's, Mitsubishi's and just about all other diesels with DPF's, but somehow I hear very little about Hyundai having issues with their DPF's. Interestingly, I think I would have ended up with the i30 if I could have waited till late 08 as the GFC hit and i30 prices finally started to stabilise a bit. Who knows ... but 4 years with the Maz3 while largely enjoyable, I think Mazda are behind the diesel ball game - trying too hard with too complex diesel engines (I know for a fact their CX5 still had the fuel dilution issues up to a year ago) when Hyundai have the runs on the board with all their container ship diesel experience over the decades ... that's my take on it anyway.

So there ... a long answer to a short question!  :)

On the absolute bright side, it's great the i30's 1.6 CDI STILL does not have a DPF!  :happydance:

From one i30 CRDI Tourer owner to another - welcome!  I have had mine since March, and have done 13,400km in that time, and still enjoying the driving experience.

As for previous cars, I really have no allegiance - Morris Minor, Renault 10, Mazda Capella, Datsun C20 van, Toyota Lexcen s/w (really a Holden Commodore with a different badge and slightly better trim), Toyota Camry s/w and now the i30.  That is in 42 years!

Interesting story thanks... I got our 2008 i30 SLX CRDI with towbar for around 27k a 2008 mazda 3 Diesel was about 30k at the time. Sounds like we made the  right choice..

Yeah Dazzler you made a good call. My year old unwanted Maz 3 showroom orphan was abt 26.5k and the best I could neg at that time for the i30 was 28.5k I think. Anyway that's all in the past now; main thing is not having a DPF means the engine is just that much simpler in the long run.

Wow Beerman. Any other owner keen to advise how many km's (miles???) in excess of 117,500? I love hearing stories of ppl's cars (or motorbikes) with odometer readings in 6 figures. Sorry there's possibly another section of this forum for that sort of topic? (Forgive me I just returned and with a newborn there's not much time to marinate in a forum!)
