Nudging this thread to get some quick smart info.
I've decided I can do my own service for Firty before my drive to Melbourne next week.

It's best matched to the 60 month / 75Mm service, which is essentially just oil and filter.

What would you advise on sourcing the required bits?

1. Filter
With very little effort I found this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GENUINE-HYUNDAI-I30-CRDI-DIESEL-ALL-MODEL-OIL-FILTER-/261643216068?_trksid=p2054897.l4275

2. Oil
Old user Reecho listed this in a post here:
Service Refill Capacity: 5.3 Litres

Filters:
Up to13-2-2008:    26320-2A002
13-2-2008-on:       26320-2A500

Fuchs:
TITAN GT1 SAE 5W-30
Mobil:
Mobil 1 0w-40
Delvac MX Extra 10w-40
Castrol:
Magnatec Professional 5w-40
Edge Sport 0w-40
Edge Sport 5w-30
Valvoline:
Valvoline Syn Power 0w-40
Valvoline MXL 0w-30
Penrite:
Penrite HPR Diesel 5 5w-40
Havoline:
Havoline Fully Synthetic 5w-40
Repsol:
Elite Competicion 5w-40
Shell:
Helix Ultra 5w-40

Does the above detail pertain to Firty's spec?

Supercheap has the 5L Penrite at $44.87. I guess I'll have to buy two bottles.

Any last words? Green light? Shopfront alternative for the filter?

Stick with a Ryco oil filter Gonz, 10 micron filtration is as good as you get.

Have you considered Nulon 0W-40 for your oil? it's a true group 4 synthetic and great for diesels too :goodjob2:

Thanks, Craig.

I just found the Ryco filter over the counter at SuperCheap is just $19.95. Enough reason to blow $5 on membership and get Mrs G a new set of $28 hubcaps.

SuperCheap has only the Castrol Edge 0W-40 in 5L at $85.88.

Autobarn has the same and the Nulon but without prices appearing.

Repco has home brand 0W-40 in 5 & 10L but frustratingly also no pricing.

OK, I'm hitting the streets for some price comparisons and shopping. :sweating:

I think the Nulon 0W-40 was $79 last I seen it at Autobarn, a couple of months ago it was there for $39 but it doesn't go on sale often as it's their best oil.

All the other oils in that list are group 3 oils with extra additives, not as good as group 4 :goodjob2: Mobil 1 0W-40 "extended protection" ( no longer available ) was group 4 up until their new range was released and now they've followed suit with the other group 3 oils :disapp:

Not sure why it's not showing up on the Supercheap website  I'm sure I've seen it in there :undecided: I'd give em a call.

Repco is near enough to be almost within walking distance.

Their Repco brand 0W-40 is around $55, which will bring it to 50ish with Mrs G's RAA discount. Two of those babies and I'm poorer by $100 and richer by 10 litres.

Their Ryco filter was $40 but they will match the $19.95 listed at SuperCheap.

When Mrs G gets home I'll go back out with her card and $120 and grab the lot. :)

One of the things I don't like about Repco oil is it's someone else's oil, Repco switched from Mobil to Penrite years ago to save money on cost and Penrite is actually quite a poor oil blended from numerous cheap suppliers :disapp:

The original $40 asking price for the oil filter would have been reason enough for me to tell them to stick it, even if they matched prices.

Gonz, when I had the CRDi I found 5 ltrs was enough (the .3 is generally retained when you drain the sump)

Actually, the .3 is required, as the oil filter drains when turned off, so 5lts would be a little under while in use.
